The "Weird" Mods
 

Well I don't know what else to call them, since they're not the standard bolt on stuff. What do you guys think of these:

Disable Double Throttle
Remove Throttle Body Coolant
Remove Air Pump
Disable EGR
Remove PCV Valve

Yeah I know, I've been spending to much time at Robinette's site... Right now I've got my entire engine bay torn apart doing my hose job and I though now would be a good time to take care of this stuff. I know the air pump is needed till I get a mid-pipe, but what about the rest? I'm not too worried about emissions, just want to make it simpler and more reliable. Based on my current mods (see sig), will any of these push me to the point of requiring an ECU upgrade? TIA!

I think the "R1 spoilers" already pushed you over that edge.

I would do the TB collant removal thing, but I am in georgia, you are in NY, I wouldn't do it. EGR valve: forget it, wait until you get a PFC, it will diable it autmatically, remove double thrttle? I guess you could, it may improve air flow into engine.

The mods are basically a waste of time, I mean they do have some benefits but generally they do not out weigh the time involved to complete the job, IMHO

I agree w/ KZ1 on the TB coolant.. if you drive your FD in the freezing cold days you could freeze the TB components w/o the heat of the coolant.

EGR.. don't see why not, except to prevent the EGR upon failure..

Airpump.. I took mine out.. engine bay was a lot cleaner..

Disable Double Throttle... disable or remove? I'm also planning on doin the same.. just need to find a plug for the butterfly rod..

Remove PCV Valve.... ??


I'm also doin a couple of other things...

since the airpump is out.. i'm removing the Air Control Valve and have block off plates to put in place.. Also have the plates for, disabling, EGR and AWS...

With all that.. non seqential turbos... man I can't wait to finish my motor and see all the BS taken out!!

what idoes the airpump do and why is it you can remove it when you add a mp?

yesterday i had to remove the air pump to get to this ripped water hose, just above the air pump there is a wire harness that someone unplugged telling me that i don't this plugged because my ac doesn't work. does anyone know what that harness does? it had no goo or bad effect on my car, so it was no biggie.

The airpump pushes air into your main cat... One of it's jobs is the heat the cat faster upon warm up and provides for better emissions. If you add a midpipe, you won't need the airpump anymore, but i've heard people leaving it and still have it connected to the mid pipe.. If you worried about emissions testing, just replace the airpump..it's very easy to do.

As for the harness, not sure what your talking about, unless it's just the plug for the air pump... with this disconnected, the airpump will not have power to engage the clutch for it to operate, basically meaning... your airpump was disabled.

How would I remove the air pump? I still have a totally stock engine bay and haven't looked around in it yet to find out where the air pump is. So, before looking at it, I'll ask these questions...
1. Does it just un-bolt and come out?
2. It's electric so there's no belts involved?
3. No lights will come on because the air pump is removed?

!. Yes it just bolts on
2. No it's belt driven so you'd need to find a new belt to fit
3. Apparantly that is true, hard to believe since the ECU looks at almost everythign else. If the CE light did come on though all you would need to do would be to add a resistor to the AP connector to fool the ECU into thinking it was there.

I disabled my airpump, and man did my car stink! I think I would get high off the fumes if I had to sit at a light.....also I had a very un-healthy idle and the car would almost die......

Can I remove only the ACV and leave everything else intact? I have a blockoff plate for the ACV and would really like to get that thing out of there. TIA...

Only one advantagfe of removing airpump, less weight!

removing airpump is not a performance mod. If you disconnect the littel wire above it it will not work, and eventually fail on you. WIth it out you will not pass emissions. Furthermore, it will clog you cat up. Essentially if you have main cat in, leave it in. It has minimal drag on pulleys as it has a clutch and is not engaged when you want power. Most likely if you take it out your car will stink and idle like crap. I still have mine in and I have a midpipe, no main cat. because it isn't worth the hsle to take it out.

It also makes great sounds when you have the hoses unmuffled, vroom,,, vroom.
