Weird Electrical Problems
Someone out there please help me out, I’ve searching for hours and hours and I’ve been trying everything that I come across with but no luck yet. I’m having big electrical problems. After finally getting my motor back from a well know rotary expert in my area and all my wires were put together I tried cranking the car and all I hear is a relay clicking, this only happens when I turn to key to try to turn the car on. I pinpointed the clicking to a relay behind the dash on the passenger side. Soon after I tried to turn the lights and nothing in the dash worked, meaning none of the lights worked, outside, turning, hazard, brakes, interior, whenever I flip the switch to turn the lights on you can hear a click and the click is coming from the relay behind the main fuse box behind the battery. Then after a while the check engine light came on and I tried jumping the wires in the Diagnostics box (TEN to GRN) and the check engine light would not blink  Also the fans keep coming on randomly. Now prior to all these problems the car was send out to get the engine bay painted and everything was removed from underneath the hood but everything was put back together perfectly and the dash was also removed to install a brand new carpet but I plugged everything back in place. I’m ripping my hair out here because I can’t find the source of the problem. I’m also beginning to think that I’m not plugging the ECU correctly either because there’s a white plug off the harness that comes from the motor that I don’t know where it goes but I’m sure that doesn’t have anything to do with the lights not working either and my fuel pump it’s not turning on either  Also this is kind of weird too, but my emergency brake is down and the brake light stays on. Sorry for the long post but I’m having a bad day when I was so happy that I thought the car was going to start today… Thanks for reading and any help would be appreciated

I would think surely electrical problems are the hardest to deal with over the net but I would start with the fuse block connected to the battery. I would , using a test light or a volt gage check for power at the ones closest to the battery. The big one (140 amp?) and move away from the battery. I would check each one using the body as a ground and then the engine as well. I would make sure the main ground is connected to the engine or if its still connected to the plate next to the spark plugs. The fans will come on if the engine computer is disconnected or it is seeing something a skew. I would concentrate on the fuses and grounds along with the dash mounted lights, check engine etc. The engine computer harness has a set of 4 white connectors which can be installed incorrectly, not smart on Mazda's part but one should make note of this. I have found the car will run any way the harness is connected. I have a 93FD and there are two white a male and female which form a loop at the engine computer and another which plugs in the main harness leading out the the engine bay. The match to it could be up behind the dash above the carpet or maybe still in the engine bay if they didn't seat the harness boot correctly. On my car it hard to see it and its covered with a foam type tape so it may be hard to pick out. Don't freak it's just a little hunting around and some basic testing for you to do.. Let me know what you find.

Almost sounds like something is shorting out...

I cant really help but I can tell you that I too had similar problems but not on your scale, not long ago my right hand flip up light wouldnt flip up anymore, the left was fine but then not long after that my right light flipped up and down fine and my left light didnt go?? also my fog lights went off and on at random. I havent really pursued trying to fix it yet because I.m gonna get the Amemiya Light kit

I ran into a very simular problem last week. What had happened was I blew the meter fuse and the engine fuse messing with the alarm in #2 CPU.
I would try to start the car and nothing would happen except for the cooling fans came on. I also knocked off the plug on the starter kill relay which also is attached to the #2 CPU. They are both in the drivers side kick panel. Adam |
yea check the fuses and the connections on the ecu. i think the single plug is the diag link ... not pluged in on the ecu harness

Where is the white plug located?

Like J.S.J said there's a plug that forms a loop where the ECU it's connected and I was wondering if this had anything to do with that. I'm positive all the ground are connected, the on the side of the motor, near the plugs and the one near the battery tray. I checked all my fuses and everything it's looking good but my biggest question it's why wasn't the car giving me codes when I jumped it through the diagnostic box? and the rest it's just making me a little mad, like that interior lights and exterior lights not working.

Int/ext lights sound like a fuse issue.
You should also check the ground on top of the rotor housings that travels to the intake manifold. Other than that, you'll need an FSM, and go through suspects. |
can you post a picture of the white harness i have disconected just about every harness on my car maybe i can help.

with a stock ecu no codes in diagnostic mode means the ecu is not getting power or a plug is not completly in
