Which way to loosen PS Pulley?

some guy at napa told me that sometimes you have to go clockwise to loosen pulleys. Which way do i need to turn to get the bolt off?

Yup, the PS bolt is a normal bolt. ie. it unscrews counter-clockwise.

Thanks. I thought it sounded odd to loosen a bolt going clockwise.

I went out and got the specialty tool specified in the FSM to get the pulley off. When I torqued it THE CORRECT WAY (counterclockwise) the plastic pulley just blew-the-f-up. Now I'm left with a nut and the grooved disc the pulley was on. I gripped the grooved disc with a huge pair of pliers and torqued again, this time I broke the pliers. Besides suicide, any tips? :dunno:

Best way to take off the PS pulley is an impact gun. If you don't want to invest in an air compressor (which, BTW, is one of the best tools you can own) go buy a cordless rechargeable impact gun. They're not too pricey and work quite well.

BTW, there's NO right-handed threads on the FD - everything is lefty-loosey, righty-tighty.

Always use an impact gun and socket on the Pwr steering nut and the Altenator nut. The plastic pully on the Pwr str will harden over time and shatter.

I have a complete Pwr str/pulley unit - $40 shipped

Come to find out that if your pulley does shatter... you dont need to remove the bolt; it'll just slide out. I wish I had the money for tools but I'm a broke college student with an FD :icon_no2:

i used an old belt and pinched it tight around the pulley with a vise grips. the nut then broke free with a normal socket. I called it my poor mans strap wrench.
