WATER! Passenger floorboard WET?

WTF?

My girlfriend leaves her backpack in the front of my passenger floorboard and it got WET somehow, and it wasn't even raining... WTF?

Furthermore, we've left a few schoolbooks down there and they get JACKED by wetness/water. Can you say "book fines"? muahaha.

What the hell is this? Smells weird, but not like coolant. Could water be leaking in thru A/C, like condensation or something? Someone tell me you've had this problem. This shit is wacky and makes my car smell bad.

garfinkle found my water problem ,the ac drain hose was not replaced through the hole by the dealer when they screeeewd my car beyond belief .runs now thanks to the gar

not exactly sure what you are saying.. your girlfriend left her backpack under your car on the passengerside? if that is how it got wet, did you have your a/c on? if yes, to both, then yes, it is condensed water from your evaporator housing. this location is where most vehicles have the evap exit tube. you can probably see it, just look on your passenger side firewall for a tube that exits from it and just kicks it there. after you have yoru a/c on, it should be dripping wet. and the smell you are smelling is probably the moldy water and weather build up over time.

ok, i understand what you mean now after reading what dub said. yeah, so actually u can check your firewall to see if your drain tube is properly routed.

I had an exact same problem before. it was a rain drained hose located right under the kick panel. check and see make sure the hose's in place. Even if the hose's in place, little ring like rubber gasket could be worned and water could leak through when rains. You better get it fixed before summer hits cuz' your car will smell like rotten fish..

OK, i have no idea what the kickpanel is on the right side, but I'm just going to look down there and see if I see a corroded tube... thx

This just started happening to me this summer.

So where exactly is this A/C drain tube?

rajeevx7 10-17-08 12:27 AM

Found it....I think....

Must have been some girls elephant feet that knocked it out.

Oh yea....that's one of the handy grommets that Mazda provides to route wires thru the firewall when you rip out all the HVAC....:)

Interesting find. My ECU just got a water hit, and kicked my car offline mid drive. Under these circumstances:
-A/C condenser broken...took a few rock hits
-down-pouring rain
-windows were fogged, so i ran defogger full blast anyway to break give me some help in clearing the windows while driving. The air circulation was set to fresh air at the time too.
I also had the system degassed so i can change the condenser out today. I'll see if it starts and since its no longer down-pouring and daytime I'll give that grommet a look. Though i don' t know how that would reach the ECU.

Mugen1800 05-21-18 09:58 PM

The grommet seems fne to me. A bit pliable, but no cracks or anyting. It looks like it was messed with since the hose isn't running through the whole in the carpet but underneath it. I'll change it anyway. I'm leaning towards the fact that i had the fresh air circulation on, a/c set to max and defog, with a broken A/C condensor. Time will tell. I don't want to rule out condensation either but...

If the grommet for the main wiring harness is partially out of place water can leak in through there as well, especially if your car is missing the weather stripping that blocks off where the rear of the hood meets the firewall.

You got a picture of what that looks like? The weather stripping? Thing that sucks about a used car is not knowing if something suppose to be "there" or not. Lol that and replacing rubbers, gaskets, and plastic on a 20+ year old car.

Mugen1800 06-06-18 08:27 PM

Ok, has to be one of these weather strips or grommets you speak of because i now have a fully repaired a/c system, and it rained yesterday. Same issue but this time it was a small sliding bead of water vice the downpour from the first time. Although i wasn't driving nearly as long, and it was raiing nearly as hard either. I never had these issues before so something must of worn out like you guys mentioned.

Testrun 06-08-18 12:22 AM

Had an issue with water (very cold) dripping down on floor board. Blew out the drain line with compressed air and good as new. At least for now.

Mugen1800 06-20-18 09:31 AM

I brought pictures this round. Basically i narrowed it to dripping only while driving. It pouring outside and interior seemed dry.

Ok mine happened to be the moulding around the top of front glass. It was worn pretty bad and you could only see it was separated if you pressed it. Had the glass replaced too since i took some hits from friendly rock pitching trucks. So far no water intrusion and guy said there wasnt any rust either. Hope this helps the next guy…

btw also i would get drips from top of glass when it rained hard… nother sign its that moulding is bad.
