Water leaking from blower area.
 

I got in my car today to find a steady drip of water leaking from somewhere around my blower motor (its trickling down from uptop and dripping off the bottem of the blower)

So I got out and started ripping the front of the car apart and pouring water to find out where the leak is coming from.

Found out that when i pour water in any of the holes under the front cowl it starts pouring onto my floor always in the same spot by the blower motor.

Now i cant get a hand down their to find exactly where its getting in, and I looked through a few of the shop manuals to no avail. Anyone thats been behind their know where it could be coming from? I really hope i dont have to rip out the dash to fix this damn thing.

That hole is where all the air enters the cabin but I've never had a dash or HVAC system completely apart.

You're certain it's not the heater core that's leaking, right? It's rain water or something and not engine coolant? There has to be some sort of seal or gasket where the vent attaches to the chassis but I've never been in there that far :(

its def not coolant, i can stand outside the car and pour water, then get inside and see the water dripping down.

Its been a problem ive had since i bought the car, but snow was on it yesterday and finally led me to find where the water is coming from. (i had assumed it was my electrical grommet on the door, which i friggen ordered a new one two days ago)

There is a drain coming from the AC, and another drain coming from the blower motor itself under the dash. Make sure the drain hoses are hooked up and not kinked/clogged.

BTW, they're both rubber hoses - the one from the evaporator is WAY up by the firewall, where the passenger's toes would be. The other one is to the right of that coming from the round blower motor casing - should be easy to find, it's the only rubber hose around there.

im about 95% sure its neither of those hoses. the ac one is def hooked to the firewall, and the blower motor one is hooked into the blower afai can tell. Maybe the top of that hose goes somewhere else?

anybody got any pics of the inside of the firewall with the dash out?

Search turbojeff. He had a bunch of pics of the CYM with the interior completely removed as he was working on it.

Thanks man, those pics helped me out. Looks like im in for a hell of a repair getting my leak fixed though. Can the blower and stuff come out without removing the whole dash?

Im planning on filling the water leak hole with some silicon sealent, then jbwelding over top of that.

The poorly repaird seams are going to be cleaned and jbwelded.

think this will do the trick?

Don't use JB weld on anything.

I'd see if I could find some seam sealer, autobody supply places should have it.

It looks like the car has been in a pretty serious wreck at some point, the burn marks tell the tale of body panel replacement.

I think that if you clean up and dry out the seams then seal them up you'll be just fine.

The panel where the blower motor mates up with the body looks tweaked. Try to flatten it out gently. Also make sure the foam seal on the blower motor is in good shape.
