wastegate/precontrol solenoid question

Soooo, im tracking down a boost problem that the vaccum job didn't fix... talk about a depressing test drive. my secondary only boosts to 7 psi. Im going through and trying to test everything it could be to track it down and I have a question about wastegate and precontroll solenoids. The fsm says blow through port A (the top port) and air should not flow from port B to A with no power. I dont see how that works. My solenoids hold presure from A to A, but not B to A. as in vaccume on A, the top port leaks out. This happens on both solenoids. Is this correct behavior? or are they f-ed

Cheers,
Dale

what are your mods ? how much boost do you build on your primary ? if there is supposed to be no air flow when the solenoid is off then that means nothing goes goes through either way, sealed is sealed.

Are you stating/checking from port A of one solenoid to port A on the other?

You should be checking each solenoid from its 2 ports A to B.

Did you remove the restricter pills from the old lines and insert them in the new vac lines?

Do you have a MityVac? That is a life-saver when dealing with turbo control issues. Are you getting over 7psi at any point?

port A to A was typo, ment A to B. mostly stock, just DB and CB on power side. I did put the pills on the new lines, and I did them one at a time so I know i didn't mix them up. The primary makes about 11 psi. I have a midyVac, and checked all the actuators (i think) and didnt find anything wrong. KOKO test passes. CRV and ACV both open and shut correctly.

I was looking at the turbo diagram, and it seems as though the airflow through the wastegate solenoid should be in the direction that it works, and I put a gauge on the line last night and can see it jumping from duty cycle, so i'm thinking thats not it, but im running out of things to check.

Thanks for the input,
Dale

here's some tips

I have tested a number of pc/wg solenoids, and yes they tend to leak in one direction. However, if you have the hoses hooked up properly then the line from the actuator goes to the port that does seal against pressure. Off the top of my head I don't recall which port holds the pressure, but you've established that.

I suspect that the fact they must be fast/light to work as duty control solenoids is the reason they don't seal in both directions. So I view this as normal behavior.

I had the same problem, turns out these two connections (circled in blue) were reversed. I'm not sure if you've tried switching them, but just thought I'd throw it out there... I believe these are the ones that you are testing.

I *think* that crossing the lines will result in 7-8psi all the way up, not just on the secondary. But it's absolutely worth checking.

On mine at least, one of the connectors has a paint mark to match it up to the correct solenoid - not sure if that was factory or a previous engine install.

Yeah, on mine I boosted fine on the primary, then got kicked to 7psi on the secondary. Very frustrating!

books, pm sent. http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX...bleshooting.htm is what I have been going by.

before the problem it was running correctly (i guess by definition), the problem apeared between drives without me messing with anything, so I dont think its the connectors. also, mign still have the little white dot on the top. so I haven't tried switching the 2 connectors. I may try anyways, just because it should be easy to eliminate.

I'm beginning to worry that its not a controll problem... Is their an easy way to test for exhaust leaks like around the manifold withoug pulling heat shields and whatnot?

Last time I got stuck at 7-8psi was when my ABV hose ruptured, but if you are getting any more boost than that then it's probably ok.
