Wastegate help

I've never worked on a turbo charged car before... so Im gonna start on my friends Rx7, the car runs great until it warms up... first 10 minutes is good boost from both turbos, then the car goes straight to crap...

Ive been told the wastegate is leaking oil back into the engine or somthing or the other? Either way, that wastegate is coming out and a new one going in... He just blew $10,000 at the dealership for an engine swap, and they had the car for the better half of a year, so Im not going to let him spend another 3 months and $2000 for a wastegate.

I havent even looked at how hard it will be to get to the wastegate, my friend says it's really cramped and blah blah blah to make excuses to not do it himself, so can someone give me a quick how to on replacing the wastegate, and where to get a replacement (i really dont like this dealership) thanks.

Be warned that the turbo system on the RX-7 is probably not anything like a turbo system that you've seen before. I would suggest studying the sequence of operations on Robinette's site (rx7.org) to better understand what does what.

The "wastegate" isn't just something you can remove. It's not external like on many custom or aftermarket turbo systems. The wastegate actuator controls the wastegate door on the secondary turbo. There is a wastegate control solenoid that helps the ECU control boost. The wastegate does not directly interact with any oil. A similar system called the "precontrol" system does the same on the primary turbo.

I think your best bet is to do some step by step troubleshooting to narrow the problem down because if you just dive and and start arbitrarily removing stuff, you're gonna get in over your head very quickly.
