VMount setup question (PIC)

Hey guys,

I'm building the bracketry for a v mount setup and am planning to eventually order an RE front bumper. Can anyone give me some input in terms of positioning the radiator?

In a nut shell, I need to know how far forward and how low the radiator bottom edge should be.

Pic for reference:

Is this a custom setup or a kit?

It's really hard to say exactly where to put it with out the front bumper. You do want it up enough so the fans aren't in danger of scraping and you want the back of the radiator to seal up against the bottom of the intercooler.

It also helps getting some good ducting to keep air going where it should go.

I posted pictures of my custom vmount years ago. I think the thread is still up.

Here you go, might be helpful. I did have to play around with the position of the radiation to find the balance between angle and clearance from the bottom.

Find a fabricator you trust and set aside thousands. None of this is easy to do correctly. Gotta pay to play.

Thanks for the replies guys.

This is a custom setup and since I don't have the bumper, I had to go by eye. After spending most of the weekend under the car, I think I might have attached the radiator a little too far out.I do like the space in the engine bay though.

Here are some pics, let me know what you guys think.

Its hard to tell. It could be too far forward and a tad too low. The bottom of the radiator should be higher than the subrame/sway bar. If it sits too low, there is a higher risk of damage. Are you able to place the radiator further in? The Greddy Vmount and my custom set up place the radiator at the same plane as the front crossmember - yours is protruding out 2' or so.

Best is to get the bumper then fit around it, looking at picture is guess at best, you might end up have to redo everything, why not just get the bumper first?

I notice you have the R1 second oil cooler hardlines, they can be in the way. I had to remove mine and go to braided lines, the hard lines were right where my radiator wanted to be.

But, I have a front mount setup, not a v-mount.

It does look like the radiator is pretty far forward, but again you are really going to need to have the nose to get everything fit properly.

Without the bumper on, you're wasting your time. It's impossible to get it right without it, as others have already said.

may be hard to tell but this is how my Koyo sits with custom brackets. fits great with the feed bumper, i also have the radiator modified for dual pass so the outlet is at the top and there is no outlet pipe/hose on the bottom. that requires extra clearance

Good eye, it is about 2" out compared to the crossmember plane. I could push it in a little further, but the oil cooler hard lines do start to be a problem like Dale mentioned.

I think I can push it a little further back, but maybe I should just switch to braided lines now while keeping the stock oil coolers.

Thanks Ricebox, do you have a photo with the bumper on where the radiator is visible?

Thanks guys

Thanks Ricebox

So I did a quick test fit with my unknown JDM bumper.and I think it came out pretty nice.

Basically the lower radiator reservoir is actually below the bumper opening. Looks like I'll get some better airflow onto the radiator fins themselves.

I'm thinking to leave it like this until I get my RE bumper and adjust it then if necessary. Will probably switch to braided oil coolant lines too at that point.

What do you guys think?

Ricebox 02-15-19 09:13 PM

what thermofans are you using? if you are using the OEM fans make sure you have them on when test fitting, they take up a few inches behind the radiator, the last thing you want is the fan assembly hanging lower than the bumper.
