Video of Torque Brace: Before and After
My wife got me the RX-7 Store torque brace for xmas and I installed it today. Things seem tighter/crisper now. I do get some rattling during acceleration...it's not too noticeable, but it kinda sounds like detonation...which is kind of torturous. :)
For those interested, I did a quick video of the engine compartment during idle and a few revs for both the before and after. The video is .wmv format, 2.4 megs, 56 seconds. Enjoy! :) http://www.micromanx.com/files/rx7_torquebrace.wmv |
It's not moving!!
Wow...people needed video to provide proof that the brace works? Common sense isn't enough these days I see. Good video Scorpio. :)
worth it?
what would it help with? my single is getting finished on friday and dont know if i would benefit that much from the brace?
Very convincing video :)
Where can you order this brace i'm having a hardtime locating the FEED website or a vendor that carries them.
His brace is solid and can be ordered from the RX7store, the FEED is a dampner and can be ordered from J-T Imports.

Hehe well then what are the diffrences/good and bad characteristics of each. BTW thanks for the jtimports thing lots of intresting stuff there :)
Thanx for the pictures...
I'm sold; I'm buying one from Rx7 Store!
Not to rain on anyone's parade BUT a motor just revving with no load is NOT the way to demonstrate a torque brace. That being said a torque brace IS a good idea.
Just ordered mine with the Rx7 Store...we'll find out :)
the rattling is from the torque brace?
Also, what benefit does the engine not moving provide? |
its easier to get into 3rd gear, especially during drag racing, i got the feed brace and love it
thats all it does?
i find 3 rd no problems at all. |
I would recommend doing a search for more info on the benefits and the rattles associated with the torque brace.
After reading KZ1's posts, I decided to get it on the theory that if the engine's power is not being used to wobble the engine back-n-forth, it will, instead, go to the rear-wheels...giving a little bit better reponse when you get on the throttle. I've never had a problem with the shifting, although I can say that the shifting now feels a little "crisper"--most likely since the tranny does not move around as much under acceleration now. My car has under 38k miles and I think the affects may be more noticeable on higher mileage cars where the engine mounts are potentially a bit more worn out. YMMV. |
just seems so simple i wonder why the manufacturer doesnt add one.?.
if your engine is moving around at idle you probably have a bad motor mount
Sorry I didnt dl the video, I didnt have time. I just thought I'd comment on that STEPHEN |
The torque brace is really to control movement during hard engine acceleration--that's when the engine starts moving around a bit...the stock engine mounts can't keep engine movement at "zero" during hard accleration.
If no engine movement is preferred, why not solid motor mounts?
Those are probably a little more difficult and/or time-consuming to install. :)
Although i could understand what you guys are saying, it is tough for me to go out and get one b/c i am not sure if the engine is suppose to move like that, ya know?
I guess i should do a search. |
The laws of physics tell me that motor mounts at the *bottom* of the engine are not going to prevent 300 hp from moving the *top* of the engine back-n-forth a bit (0.5 inch?). If we can channel that "wasted" power to the rear wheels for better initial response when going WOT, then I'm all for it.
How well it actually works is debatable and probably varies from car to car. |
Scorpio,
Nice video. Based on how much your engine was moving before the torque brace install just by blipping the throttle, I would say that you have a bad drivers side engine mount. If the engine was moving that much without any load, it must of really been bouncing around under load! Did you check the mounts before installing the torque brace? edit - spelling |
