vacuum leak problem

today i removed my intake elbow to replace the spark plugs. all was going well untill i hooked everything back up and started the car, it started right up but was idling like a piston engine was camming i guess, going up and down real fast. it was spitting out a LOT of smoke and didnt stop. i heard air spraying out from under the UIM so im guess thats a vacuum leak. i have a 2 questions about this. 1. could a vacuum leak cause a whole lot of smoke to come out like it was doing? 2. if i were to remove the UIM to check for the leak, would i have to replace the gasket going from the LIM to the UIM?

a vacuum leak can make the car run like crap and smoke (most commen is the line to the map sensor unplugged will do this)

Ive reused my lim-uim gasket plenty of times

i agree you must have knocked the vacume line off the map sensor...

Also, did you make sure the TB to Compression Tube (elbow) O-Ring seated in it's groove??. If not, that may be an avenue for a vacuum/boost leak as well.

i just walked out to my car and the vacuum hose was not connected into the map sensor, i hooked it back up and it was back to normal(even though normal is idle at 1500 rpms) with a few minutes of smoke after startup.(always does this) i think i have a different vacuum leak somewhere else because of the high idle, thanks for the help
