Vacuum Hose Job - n00b attempt...
 

I'm beginning my attempt at vacuum hose replacement. I have gathered a lot of info from this forum and am going in head 1st.

I am going to need a lot of help at this because I was an idiotic uniformed n00b before I found this forum and sent my 7 to a crappy non-rotary performance shop here in Houston, TX that my friend recommended - which turned out to be a nightmare for me (if he wasn't my friend, I would have killed him). I got my car back after a bad rebuild in pretty bad shape...

Current Issues(/Questions):
-The vacuum hoses were foobar'd, routed completely wrong, vacuum chamber missing - now with no original set-up/hoses, I can't do each hose one-by-one as the robinette, et al. suggest...unless someone has any idea where i can find a chart with the 70+ hoses length's, I might be screwed...or do proper hose lengths even matter?
-Engine wire harness is in bad shape (if you got one to sell locally PM me...i'll post in the FS/WTB too). I'll post pics when i get it off to get opinions on its condition.
+On a positive note, I had my engine rebuilt this time with the 3mm racing seals and Street Ported by the guys at RX7.com (Rotary Performance).

-There are now some missing parts internally that I believe I have identified...(This will probably the source of a lot of my questions initially)
-Attached is a pic of the Air Intake Pipe attached to the turbo. It's missing the nipples for the hoses...can just the nipples be replaced? Has anybody had this problem and did a Home Depot job on it?

I know, there may be some that will tell me get a Haltek and skip the vac-hose job, but I wanna start over again with a stock set-up, then slowly build up.

Please don't flame too much...I'm a total rx-7 n00b. I have loved the 3rd gen since I first laid eyes on it, and plan to keep this car as long as I can. Thanks for reading and replying.

iluvmyrx7.com has the complete service manuals for 3rd gen rx-7's. I printed out the vac hose diagram and routed the hoses one at a time. Then after i finished one I'd color it on the diagram to make sure it's finished and correct. I have had numerous problems getting my car going but I see it as a test of willpower. Just use the available diagrams as best as you can, double check your work. Things will turn out ok. If the website is down I can try email you the file with the diagrams .pdf it is 6.6 meg tho.

I printed it out on a color printer and taped it to the underside of my hood while I did the hose job. Make sure you test your check valves, too. One or more are probably bad. Here are some links to the work I did on my car recently:

As far as the nipples on the compressor inlet....one goes to the block that supplies air to the oil injectors. The other goes to the oil filler neck. You should be fine using some 1/8" NPT barbed fittings.

Sonny, I followed your vac job post and was anxiously waiting for your write-up! Thanks and nice job! Thanks for the links, they will be a great addition to my "library". As far as my check valves, that eff-ing place that screwed up my car "misplaced" all my check valves...so I gotta buy all new ones...*see EDIT* If some used ones check out ok, is there any value in getting new ones over used ones? (I know the new ones are ~$40-$50 a pop...there are 4 right?)*

EDIT: Saw page3 of Sonny's write-up for the check valve solution. Any problems with the McMaster-Carr check valves?

I have seen on some posts that users replace their check valves with metal orifices. The parts cost less than a dollar each and they are not as prone to failure as the plastic valves as they are metal. Do some searching I know its buried in this site somewhere.
