Used Twins R they good insurance?

I know many forum members seem to have extra twin turbos laying around their garages. Might be from an upgrade to a single or perhaps just insurance.

Given the cost of turbo rebuilds, does it make sense to pick up a pair of used turbos and just keep them "in case?" Seems like the rebuilders charge a lot for redoing these and if a pair with relatively good mileage can be had for a reasonable price, is this a smart purchase? no plans to ever go single, planning to keep it very close to stock.

thanks

nope.

spend your money wisely on some Efini's or BNR's :)

efini are pretty much just the same as stock imo.. i am going for some bnr rite now because i dont have any plans to go single and i love the twins. just upgrade to something new

"Keep it close to stock"!

Really no desire to up the ante. Stock sequential setup is fine with us. Just curious about picking up a used set for a backup.

thanks

Dont waste money on the efini. If you are upgrading go with BNR. Stock twins will always be available in used form for around $300.00 or less. However, buying a set of used twins is just rolling the dice. You hope it works in your favor, but it is a gamble.

rebuilt twins = shit. I'd never get used twins either, chances that they are shit as well is very likely.

BNR's is the way to go. Cheaper, more power, and are actually rebuildable. :)

if you find a reliable member selling it then go for it...since you said that you don't really want more power and just want a spare set..

Yup, used twins appear to be a serious crap shoot so the key is buying from a member who is capable of evaluating the condition of a set.

Efini twins make sense only in a universe in which BNR does not exist.

FD3S2005 02-07-08 07:53 PM

why go efini when bnr are the same price?

KaiFD3S 02-07-08 08:08 PM

With the BNR comes with more modifications as it flows more than stock...The OP is happy with the stock system as he want's to keep the car close to stock.
