Alright, on my way home I saw a car that had been Booted by the local Traffic Pigs.

What if you just drove around with your own Boot and locked that focker up ? How in the hell is someone going to move your car ??

Instead of a Club that can be easily handled by a thief, what would they do with a Solid Steal Boot on your wheel ???


After reading about WorkS2R's FD being stolen in N.Y. ........just a thought.

Because it would be a GIGANTIC pain in the ass to get it on and off wherever you go.

I think I'd mainly use it while my car is parked at the house. Then again, if they made it easy to use I might lock that focker up all the time.

I put a "Protected by Heckler & Koch" bumper sticker on my friend's beater and that pos still got stolen!

Those boots look weak compared to the huge ass ones the cops get to put on your car. =/ I want the super beefy one they get to use :D

I'm not familiar with these 'boots" that police use in some areas. Any pics? What has to be done to get it removed once placed?

What's to stop a man from rolling up with an oxyacetylene torch and cutting that fucker right off his car? How is it legal to detain a person's vehicle because of a parking violation? To my understanding, at least around here, there are 2 kinds of parking offenses...tow away and ticket.

It's usually for repeated offenses and shit. There is a phone number on it that you have to call and they come take it off for you.

Why in the mother fuck would anyone want to live in a place where bullshit like this prevails?

Ummmm Integra Type R owners actually have to use this bullshit. Their cars get stolen so much that a lot of them have resorted to booting their own cars.

Yup, with a 200 dollar oxyacetylene torch I think I could have that cut off (at least the "arm" which is what makes the thing functional) in about 5 minutes, maybe 10 if it's very thick.

IF they put that bullshit on any car of mine, I'd call and have my big truck and tow dolly brought to me. I'd winch the car up on it backwards and take my car home with their boot on it...and remove it my own way. And they'd lose their expensive fucking boot.

I got a Viper alarm and a "pedal lock" device that lock your gas and clutch petal so you can't press the clutch or the gas pedal. Don't know exactly how good is really is but it does seem to be a pain in the ass to try and cut that off since it not alot of room down there to work in.

You should see some of the devices prevalent in South Africa. Car jacking is so common that there are all these LETHAL devices being installed in cars...it is pretty wild. Everything from guns and flame-throwing devices that shoot out the sides of the car from concealed ports to heavy-duty spring loaded machetes that swing out from underneath and cut the legs off someone trying to steal your car, to nerve agents and electro-shock devices....THOSE fellas have it all figured out! There was a good article in one of the car mags here a while back that showed all this stuff....it was freaky wild! :eek:

Viper and other DEI alarms are the most common, so I guarantee you that the theifs know them inside out. Also, posting on your car what alarm you have is RETARDED, cuz it's basically telling the theif where your alarm is, and how it's wired.

On that note, a custom install is a MUST for any alarm, ie be creative where you hide the central unit. There are a couple places that if you think about, it just wouldn't be worth the work trying to find. ;)

As for the pedal lock (aka Autolock), it's great, I have it too, BUT there is a device out there on the internet SPECIFICALLY made to break it. Go figure :mad:

Doesn't matter about living or not. Most major metropolitan cities have and use these boots. In DC, you'll get a ticket the first and second time. If it's not paid, the third time, you're getting booted. End of story.

One thing you guys need to keep in mind as that these boots can damage/scratch your rims. And ya damn straight I'd sue the pants off of the district if they damaged my rims while booting my car. Detaining property is one thing, and damaging it is totally another...

But RotaryResurrection is right. In short, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to 100% prevent a car from being stolen (the Lotus explosive alarm system doesn't count, because you're down a car lol). A theif can always just tow the car to his place and deal w/ whatever fancy shmancy devices you have in the privacy of his own home. So I think you need a balance of an alarm that'll make it too noisy/too much of a hassle for him to try and gut your car on the spot, and some transmitting motion sensors that are SEPARATE from your alarm system (ie Lojack, or custom installed GPS system w/ remote activation). That way if the mofo wants to tow your ish, you'll know once the car is being moved, and will be able to track it.

Oh and of course, the last point is the most obvious. I don't mean this in a bad way at all, but be smart where you park your car. If the area looks like a place you wouldn't wanna stand in for very long, obviously don't leave your car there! LOL. If there's broken glass on the street, welcome to break-glass alley. MOVE YOUR CAR. And to be real, if you live in a bad area, maybe a nice car isn't the smartest thing do to. Really. I simply would NEVER park my FD outside. It HAS to have a garage, and you darn right that this affects my living choice. Gotta find a place w/ a secure private garage (ie just my own). Because, after all, where do you think ppl will see your car MOST often, thus making it high-profile for theft? YOUR HOME.

You see, it's not just about whether or not you can afford to BUY a nice car. It's about whether or not you can afford to KEEP a nice car. And that includes a secure parking area, comprehensive insurance, proper maintenance, etc, just to name a few.
