UIM/TB gasket question

Hey guys, I bought my car at a bank auction a few years back, so I have no idea of the history of the car. It had 64K miles on it when I made the purchase. After doing some fiddling with the car I figured that it had been in a semi serious front end accident and also the color had been changed from red to black. I always just assumed it had the original engine though untill now. The other day I read that the original TB to UIM gaskets that mazda used were made of paper and that they switched to metal gaskets later on. I have a metal gasket. My car was manufactured sometime in 92. This kind of leads me to believe that possibly my engine is not the original one. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The engine could also have been rebuilt. Look around the engine for VIN #s and hopefully match the body.

The engine numbers don't match the body VIN.

theres a blue stamp infront ofthe motor if its a reman, but you have to take off your alternator to see it.

If I recall correctly when Mazda did the fuel system recall they were sposed to change the gaskets to metal.

Mmmm. Before I bought mine I called MAZDA and had them check the VIN to make sure all the re-calls had been done. They said yes, but I still had the paper/plastic gasket?

Well, Mazda Stealerships are always so darn trustworthy so you really have no way of knowing.

Actually I think it was Pettit (Cam) who told me that. He also said that they rarely replaced them (slackers). Mine were not replaced I had to do them myself. LIM was a pain in the butt.
