Turbo problems....maybe?!?

How can you tell if your secondary turbo on a stock setup has gone out?

I just purchase a stock 3rd gen not too long ago, and I keep hearing from people that there's supposed to be a big boost in power at 5000 rpm's. Mine doesn't have that, or is so small that I'm not noticing it.

First twin turbo I've owned, so could somebody help me out here? :(

Do you have a Boost gauge connected? If so, what's your boost pattern. Stock pattern should yield a 10-8-10 psi pattern at WOT. Your secondary turbo should "kick-in" at about 4500 rpm (at WOT).

Read this site for troubleshooting FD turbo control problems http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm

and, to me, if your stock and it is making 10-8-10 boost pattern, it's pretty seemless so it just pulls hard through redline. Once you start upgrading things and up the boost, then you'll feel the 2nd turbo come on line.

Tim Benton: I agree with your statement. At secondary transition, I hit 12psi and I can really feel the car pull very hard as it accelerates very fast to redline.

I think TuxedoCartman needs to install a Boost Gauge to get an accurate vacuum/boost reading for better diagnosis of his problem and repair thereof.

No, I don't have a boost gauge installed yet (it's sitting in a big pile of "need this now!!!" parts in my garage, waiting to be installed.) But as soon as I do get it installed (hopefully sometime in the next 2 weeks) I'll check the boost pattern.

Thanks for the help, guys! :)

Be sure to refresh your thread when you have additional info on your situation. Thanks. Good Luck.

FYI....I've owned my FD only 4 months and been a club member since I bought the car. Hang in there and you'll learn alot. Don't be afraid to ask questions. This Club/forum if full with great people (members) and Moderators that have an abundance of information to share.
