Turbo or Nonturbo
 

Hello, I'm kinda new to the forums so bear with me. I'm looknig at purchasing an FD from a local lot, which he says is a turbo. I'm just wondering if there is any way to tell in teh Vin number whether it is single or twin, and also maybe what to look for under the hood.

all fd's are tt from the factory.

what to look for under the hood??? if you see 1 big turbo about the size of your head.... its a single turbo.

but go ahead and check out some pictures off twin turbo and single turbo 3rd gens and you'll clearly see the difference

I spent 1 and 1/2 years researching this car, trust me READ before you buy. You're going to be in a world of hurt if you don't do that. A week after buying it you'll make this thread: "Need help". Inside it will talk about oil leaking and smoke bellowing out of the exhaust, and you'll ask whats wrong. The members will tell you that its probably low compression and that you're FUCKED.

So, read.

A couple of weeks ago we had a woman in Kansas who was looking at selling her son's car. It sounded good and may be gone already. Do a search......put the word Mom in it.....it should turn up. Then send her a personal message through the forum. I haven't seen the car myself, but the lady sounded genuine. You might be able to pick up a gem.....if, as I say, it isn't gone already.

I'd be wary of a car that winds up on a used car lot. At the very least, have it checked out by a rotary engine expert. Otherwise you could wind up with an expensive problem on your hands. We see plenty of those on this forum from new owners who are hit with the unexpected or didn't do their homework in advance.

Is a car that suddenly pops its engine and is now looking at a $5,000 replacement enough to scare you? It should be.

If you wand a FDS3 then just know that you'll have to spend at least 10k on it a few months after you get it. They are 13+ years old. Usually everything is still stock and 140k plus o the motor and everything else. So when it pops and it will. I hope your rich and have the money on standyby. No use in keeping it all stock at the point of a rebuild. IMO.
Didn't mean to ruin it for ya. But hey it's better you see it comming, then get blind sided by it. THen you'll be sitting in the garage by yourself in your FD with a blown motor and no money to fix it. so you just sit in it everyday remembering what it was like to drive her.

If you don't even know that all FD's are TT you shouldn't be buying one.... that's it...... Plus what they said about unexpected problems
