turbo control solenoid replacement?
is there a mac 3 way solenoid or whatever type brand that can be used instead of the stock turbo control solenoid ? mine is on the outs and I dont want to go with stock again

The MAC solenoid is only to replace the factory boost control, the 2 green solenoids that are next to each other on a bracket at the front of the intake manifold. Those normally last a very long time, unlike the other solenoids, but the nipples do have a tendency to snap off.
The plain 3-port solenoids under the upper intake manifold aren't replaceable with the MAC. Or, if you did, you'd replace a small solenoid with a giant solenoid :). What exactly is the problem you're having? Dale |
my transition is really slow....and slow to boost and my boost pattern is not 10 8 10 sometimes its 10 7 14, or 10 6 ??? (??? = dont know what it spikes up to because it happen once where it spiked past 14 and it felt like my engine had immense back pressure and if I didnt remove my foot from the throttle something bad was going to happen. Is that considered compressor surge?)
I had perfect 10 8 10 (10 8 12) with my old set of stock turbos, I replaced them with 99 and they boost well....just cant get the pattern What I have done to try and remedy this is 1. Adjusted turbo pre control actuator rod many times...from what i remember of last year was when I did... my transition was even more terrible from 7 psi to 14 psi wot makes my ass end squirly 2. Replaced my 4 solenoids to series 8 (i was going to replace turbo control solenoid to but the one i received was broken in box) all this stuff was used by the way and i never checked them. It still had the same effect anyway. 3. Searched for boost leak by pressurizing my system with a aircompressor at 10 psi and used soap (no bubbles) 4. Manual vacuum gauge hooked up 17inches of mercury at idle from manifold nipple My car is: 94 touring Street port 13b rew by Banzai http://www.banzai-racing.com/lukovich_rebuild_05.htm (engine has 16,000m on it now) Simplified sequential Full Exhaust All pollution crap removed 850cc all 4 power FC + Commander 99 spec twins Intake Pullys All Gauges Necessary viton check valves (replaced 2011) My car is away for the winter right now but its coming out soon once the snow goes away and I would like to get this resolved before something bad happens.....switching over my twins like that.... do I have to change any types of settings in my Power FC ? if you need any more info let me know thanks |
If you're using the stock factory boost control with a full exhaust, you probably won't have good boost control. Getting spiking and other problems is very common.
With a full exhaust, you should be able to hear the turbo control door open (the exhaust will get louder) and that will verify if that system is working properly. But, the MAC valves would help to replace the factory boost control system with a better solenoid. Either that or a true aftermarket boost controller. Dale |
Have you tested your turbo control solenoids? What were the results? Why do you think it's faulty?
Those were some questions I would ask myself if my turbo system is not boosting correctly. I would follow the FSM and test the 4 solenoids that controls our sequential system and make sure they are holding vacuum/pressure. If in fact they tested fail, you can check out my aftermarket heavy duty solenoid rack system. I also have hks ez manual boost controller hooked up now and it's still doing that

I just want to change it out. If its not that I would still feel better having a new solenoid there controlling my system As for your group buy. I have wanted for awhile. Just $$ flow is not ready yet to spend on those types of goodies And sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you feel better. I hit a pot hole on my bike. Came out of no where. I Have a scar all the way down the inside of my leg from the bars !!! |
How is your boost controller hooked up? If you're getting good boost on the secondary turbo it doesn't seem like a control issue.

When I get home from work I will find you a Diagram how I hooked up the boost controller...This one I had to follow 2 differnt types of diagrams

So if you have the 99spec turbos the orfice or (pills)is built in the turbo manifold so you maybe using a duel control with the extra after market boost control.

how do i remove them? for my 94 set, I replaced all lines with svh including the lines with the pills.. |
The nipple on the compressor housing that you get the boost reference from normally has the pills built in there. You can drill them out.

Dale I think i was reading a thread where I can cut both those nipples off and tap with 1/8 NPT with a brass nipple ....is this correct? thanks by the way, i cant wait to get my car out so i can start working on this again (put away for winter :( ) |
Just replacing solenoids and hoping for the best doesnt cut it. I had 23 spare solenoids and only 6 of them passed testing. I would find dgeesamans post about testing them if your problem isnt fixed.

Is it ok to drive a car with the secondary turbo inactive? I'm not sure if the prespooling of the secondary builds up or anything like that causing harm.

i would have to ask why your turbo is not getting secondary boost....what happens when it comes online?
