7. WHISTLING NOISE FROM WINDSHIELD MOLDING
Service bulletin #049/92, Category S, Issued 10/5/92
Applies to vehicles with a VIN of JM1FD331*P0207061 or lower
produced through May 31, 1992. Some RX-7s may emit a whistling
noise around the windshield area when being driven at high speeds.
Caused by air being pulled through the space between the molding
and the windshield. A repair seal foam kit has been designed to
fix this. Simply slide the foam under the windshield molding.
Later RX-7s have the sealing foam attached to the windshield
molding at the factory.

Can I just buy this kit from a mazda dealer and install it myself? I fall into the category for this problem and definately have the symptoms of lots of wind noise from that area.

If this hasn't been done on your car yet, I think the dealer is obligated to do it at no cost. Could be wrong though as it's a "service bulletin"?

I'm not leaving my car with a dealer. You shouldn't either, hopefully they'll just give me the part and the TSB instruction.

TSB's aren't "required work" for the dealers. To the OP, give Ray a call and see if he can order the kit for you.

DESCRIPTION

Some 1993 RX-7s may emit a whistling noise around the windshield area when being driven at high speeds. This whistling noise is caused by air being pulled through the space between the molding and the windshield.

A repair seal foam kit has been established as a countermeasure. If a whistling noise is encountered on a vehicle(s) produced on or before May 31, 1992, install a repair seal foam kit into the vehicle's front windshield molding. Lift the windshield molding and slide the sealing foam into the space between the molding and the windshield. See figure.

Vehicles produced after May 31, 1992 are equipped with a modified front windshield molding. The sealing foam is attached to the molding.

You are preaching to the choir here. Bought the car new in 1994 and had horrible dealer experiences. Would never take the car anywhere now but Kilo Racing in Orlando. However, if a recall hadn't been done (for something like this) I'd have the dealer do it but I would hang around and then inspect the hell out of it.

As has been pointed out this is not a recall so get the kit from Ray and Malloy and do it yourself.
