Is it true (Mazda remans)?
I heard from Ray that Mazda stopped the production of remans. I mean, if it comes from Ray I believe it but WTF?
The thing that sucks is that Mazda owes me a reman. That is where it is getting exciting. Apparently this was not just a random decision though. I guess Malloy had 5 remans they were supposed to get about a month and a half ago. I heard Mazda put them on an engine dyno/had them inspected and all failed. Can anyone verify this? |
Have you spoken to ray? I believe that would asnwer your question
|
i was at my local mazda dealership, about... 2 weeks ago asking about remans and they said they could still get them.
as i understand it tho, OEM parts are only required to be kept stocked for 10 years after the production date, in this case, 1995, so technically they dont have to keep any OEM parts for the FD's stocked anymore. |
FD's were produced until 2002

Not true. I bought a Malloy Reman almost 5 years ago, 20K miles, still has 19 in. Hg of vacuum, Steve Kan tuned 6/13/08 with 311 whp, 264 w-ftlbs of torque at 12 psi on California 91 pisswater.
There has also been a switch in the reassembly company since you bought yours. |
I would way rather have a new engine built from Mazda Japan than a reman from USA.
|
There are always other options other than remans :)

I would definitely buy another. I would have to agree...my last reman was installed in 2001 has about 30k miles still pulls 19in. vac and I have been singled with approx 420rwhp fro a few years now! *knock on wood ;-)* |
From what I have seen of remans I would never buy one, so IMO there is no big loss if Mazda stops selling them.
We just pulled one apart tuesday that was in a stock car for about a year. It had a stock exhaust port on the rear and a huge port on the front. I am talking at least double the flow of stock... How can somebody not notice that when building a reman engine? I need to find out but I bet the reason they pulled it was uneven compression front to rear. |

My reman lasted 30k then choked itself because of the poor oil pan gasket seal and chewed itself up, I guess it was just to depressed and sad to go on in life... :(

New Mazda Reman Plant?
You all know that mazda is switching to a newly built, internally operated reman facility in virginia now, right? That is likely the reason for delay, while that new plant gets operational and the operation is moved from the old plant, they are likely not producing any more remans. This is good news because in the past remans were subcontracted outside of mazda, but now mazda is apparently taking a more active role. There is a fellow on rx8club who is employed by the new plant and is/was trained by a rotary engineer from Japan. On the other hand... Can the LSx conversion kit for the RX-8 be far behind? |

If the remans come with NEW rotor housings and rotors (not sure they do) - I'd buy one in a heartbeat... |
