Transmission/Shifting problem

I did a search, but couldn't find anything relevant to my issue
I've had my car for 8 years and it has always worked great. It's a 5-speed JDM car with about 34k kms on it now.

I do a lot of autocross with my car, and at the last event (a week ago) there were a few little hick-ups. Times when I would hit the gas and it would hesitate before accelerating, then accelerate properly. May be unrelated, I don't know.
It was a couple hours driving home with no problems.

Today was the next time I drove it - I was able to leave the garage fine, but at the first stop sign, the car wouldn't go into 1st gear. The shifter would instead flop over to the left (farther than it ever should) and there were no gears there. I drove it home in 3rd. When I got it in the garage I could sometimes find 1st and sometimes it would flop over.

Anyone know the likely cause of the issue?
Thanks

You can start with the easy thing first which would be to check that the plastic bushing on the bottom of the shifter and/or plastic bushings for the ball/pivot are good or not. They’re know to get old and break which would cause some goofy issues.

Plug not that it could have dislodged one of the ends of the shifter rods in the transmission but it’s take some serious work on the shift lever to do that I’d think. My get is the bushings. Look up a thread on here about “how to rebuild the shifter” and you’ll see detailed pictures of everything. Not hard to get to.

The 3 bolts that hold the shifter down had backed themselves out to varying degrees
I don't think there's any more to it than that, but I'll know once I have the rest of the mechanism apart and reassembled
