Transmision Problem

Sometimes my transmission doesn't want to go into gear (any gear) right after I start up. When it finally does go into gear the transmission will either lightly grind or the car will jump forward a little. After driving for 2-3 miles it is OK. Sometimes while shifting I can feel the gears engage even with the clutch pedal on the floormat. The car has a Centerforce dual friction clutch installed by the previous owner about 2K miles ago. Suggestions?

its on its last leg. Mine did this before it would totally lock me out of reverse and it was a high mile trans with alot of abuse. It will likely need a complete rebuild. It may be cheaper to buy a new trans. Like totally new. After having mazda rebuild it for $1700+ 3 years ago. It was still half assed. Took it back and they replaced more parts they missed, $800. Then the last time replaced yet another group of parts they didnt replace yet another $780 bucks. Keep in mind it may have been a matter of 3 years but the car isnt driven much, maybe 15k in the past 3 years. So its probably more cost effective to replace rather than rebuild it. Last I heard you can still buy a new mazda trans for the FD. Mazdacomp may even have a decent price. You gotta have some time slips as they are Mazda race support.

Bummer, I was hoping for a clutch adjustment or something short of a new transmission.

EVEYTIME I SHIFT INTO FITH GEAR IT GRINDS ALITTLE.
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND WHAT'S THE SOLUTION.

ALSO MY SPEEDOMETER IS NOT SHOWING THE MILES ON DIGITAL DISPLAY.

it could be a problem with your hydraulic system. Why don't you check Clutch slave cylinder it's known to go wrong. You can get a rebuilt kit at the diller for like 10 bucks. If that one is ok check clutch master cylinder also a rebuilt kit for like 13 bucks. I did both at the time and also replaced stainles steal clutch hose which was 45 bucks at the rx7.com. It helped me a lot.

replace the gear oil in the trans... That might help.

It does NOT sound like you need a new transmission. In fact, it doesn't sound like any kind on tranny problem at all.

Sounds like your clutch isn't completly dis-engaging.

Might be the slave cyclinder, that's a good start. First just check to make sure all the adjustments are good, this could be a very simple problem.

pilot bearing.....When this fails the clutch disc won't stop
