Transmission leaking oil.. (Over flow)?
 

Ok so I swapped my trans with a low mile one and i ended up using about 4 quarts of oil..

So, bell housing then gear box then transfer case? Between gear box and tail of the trans there's another plug and drain plug.. I also filled it with gear oil..

Now every time I'm driving I smell gear oil so when I parked I jacked up the car and saw it dripping ..

Only place I can think of the oil is coming from is the over flow tip on top of the trans..

Any ideas?? I used a chart here on the forum to fill it up.. But didn't see anything about putting oil in the middle of the trans where I did..

*The transmission only takes about 2.5 qts of gear oil. 75w 90. If you put in 4 qts you've over-filled.
*There are TWO drain plugs, ONE fill plug. Get the Factory Service Manual out and read page J-6
*"Over flow tip on top of the trans"? No idea what this is, but the shifter takes grease and gear oil...and is filled separately. Again, you need to get the FSM out and read.

I got the right oil weight in there . I'll try to drain some tomorrow and go from there..

Rear transmission seals do wear out, even low mileage is 20 years old likely.
Inexpensive part and easy to install. Leaking would be from the rear where driveshaft attaches.

There is an overflow on the tranny for when you overfill, it'll come out on its own. I typically add 3.5-4 liters to my tranny since I do a lot of tracking. There is a secondary fill plug above the normal plug with a different socket that you can use. I've never touched the tail section, it should move back there on its own.

But put the car on a hoist and verify where its leaking from anyway. It could be the rear seal as suggested.

Yeah I know I'm not crazy... That breather is there I seen it and how do u not spill with that much oil on there..
Anyways wil wrk on getting some of the oi out..
