Transmission and driveshaft removal

I'm removing the transmission and driveshaft from my 93 R1 today to be replaced with an LS1 and a T56. Few questions though:

- Is there any downside to not having anything connected to the differential for a week or so? I won't have the T56/Rx7 driveshaft until then.

- What's the easiest way to take the transmission off?

- Ditto, driveshaft?

Also, it should be noted that there's no motor in the car. If there was, I'd just pull the motor and tranny out together. But I can't really figure out how I'm going to get just the tranny out by itself.

On a side note, if anyone wants the tranny, it's up for grabs :D

IMO you just have to be careful that you set the weight of the diff down gently. A block of wood works pretty good to support the diff at the driveshaft flange.

I suggest you look up any transmission writeup for details of removal. There is some info on my site (www.davidgeesaman.com), Scuderia Ciriani, and others.

You should consider using a transmission jack. You can buy a 1/2 drive ratchet powered scissor jack for about 50 dollars on ebay or you could probably rent one. The t56 weighs around 220lbs and is going to be a bear to keep steady if you are just balancing it on a piece of wood.

Keep the diff propped up if possible.
