Tranny drain bolts sizes

Are both the side drain bolts for the tranny both the same sizes? Meaning do they share the same thread pattern? The 2 bolts that I'm talking about is the one on top with the square head and the one on the lower side with the star/torx pattern. Thanks.

There are just two drain bolts, and they are different sizes. One is a big hex bolt (normal type here, not a torx or anything weird) on the bottom of the tranny and the other is a square pipe-plug thing on the side (near the bottom) of the housing.

Use a normal socket on the big one, and use an adjustable wrench (or similar) on the square one.

The fill plug is located on the side of the transmission housing above the square drain plug, and is also square.

Buy a shop manual! The tranny drain and fill plugs are described on page J-6 of the 93 manual.

There's a rotary specialist shop near me that carries the square one, but has to order the hex one. I asked because they had the square one in stock and I would rather just use 2 square ones for the 2 side plugs since it's easier to remove/put back.

Thanks Max.

Unless they are messed up, there is no reason to replace them.

unless i can find a square socket it makes sense to replace the square plug with a metric bolt
