trailer hitch on an FD
 

I know this is more of a performance forum, so do forgive the question from a newbie. Is it possible to attach a trailer hitch to an FD rx7? I only need to tow maximum 1000 lbs, basically a kart and a kart trailer. If possible, does anybody know where I'd find a good (safe) hitch?

Let me be the first to say a trailer hitch is no place for any rx7. and honestly if I ever saw someone on the freeway with a trailer hitch towing something in a FD the first thing that would come to my mind if he totally doesnt deserve that car. Just my opinion.

OMG.....LMAO! Are you serious? I mean just look under the back end of the FD, do you see anyplace to attach a hitch. I put a tow hitch on my bros truck and I can't see any place to put one under the FD. Besides, have fun towing someting with all that torque the FD has.
BTW I went outside and looked before I posted just to make sure I DIDN'T see any place. I may sound like a dick but I'm not tring to be.

actually i think damian runs one on his for pulling this track tires. i could swear i remember a kill story about racing someone while pulling his trailer and winning.

I think it's stupid. Just plain stupid. Regardless if Damian did it or not. Just thinking about it just made me dumber.

I don't see what the problem is putting a trailer on your FD and towing your tires and tools to track events. I plan to do it myself someday, until I can afford a tow a vechicle and a large trailer.

I would do a search on Damian's setup. He had to custom cut his diffuser a little bit to get the mounting eqquipment in place.

I think many use a trailer hitch to transport their autoX stuff. I suppose the preferred method would be a car trailer and big comfy truck to pull it with, but some don't have that kind of money or a place to park it all. It weighs maybe 20 lbs (less than many huge wings) and is carried low. It doesn't stand out much at all.
So...are there any other 16 yr olds who need to take a moment from pondering such weighty questions like which 19" wheel looks the "sickest" or what color to paint your dash... and read this? :rolleyes:

Don't think that one will work. The Uhaul one was nice and almost invisible.

If I were traveling to autocrosses regularly, I would definitely get a trailer. Where else are you going to put your race tires ............. on the roof????

1 in the passenger seat, two behind the seats and in front of the rear strut brace, and one in the trunk :) Pile fluids and tools in every other corner, and off to the track you go! That's how I've gotten my hoosiers to the track for the past 2 years, this year I hope to hook up the u-haul hitch. Not very classy, but I've seen people at the track propping up the hood of 100k cars with a 2x4 so I'm not very concerned...

That's a good way to store everything. Now, where do I put my co-driver :)

Yep, it can be done that way if you don't carry much more than tires and a jack. You can't even fit a cooler in the car after that. There's also the possibility of now having many very large and heavy objects waiting to fly around inside the car.

The first time it rains and you have to pack all your wet stuff back into the car you'll wish you had a trailer.
