Tragedy struck the rx7 world today

Today I lost my baby, my rx7 caught on fire and burned the whole left side of the engine bay and to top it of the firefighters fucked up the hooooe which was in good condition because they didn't know how to open the hood and in the end they ended up using the hood latch after they failed to open the hood. RIP Rx7 you can see it on YouTube. Or googling car on fire university of Iowa

any symptoms before it happened?
thanks for sharing, RIP rx7

Not with MazdaSpeed, however I know of a Cosmo 20b front clip for 4700 with running engine and great compression...;-)

BridgePorted12A 04-09-12 08:30 PM

I can't find the clip on youtube

Sorry for the loss OP, did you have a fire extinguisher in the car?

Looks like they put it out really quick. How long did it take for them to respond?

Always always have a fire extinguisher.

F1GURIN 04-09-12 08:43 PM

did you remove the material from the top of the hood? Apparently it has clips that melt off and douse the flame a little when there is a fire.

XLR8 04-09-12 08:44 PM

Those boys weren't moving with much purpose....

My second biggest fear..... fire. My first, theft.

Sorry for your loss man. Something like this isn't easy to face. All I can say is let the insurance do its work, and rebuild your dreams. There are many great examples out there.

I dont see that doing to much work.....Specially if alot of fuel is involved.

R-X-R 04-09-12 08:53 PM

^ "American Muscle" fans?

edgars95rx7 04-10-12 08:03 AM

i was gonna use an extinguisher but i could hear that the fire was already out of control so if i poped the hood open it would of probably fed the fire more ive seen it happened. atleast its only the engine and not the rest of the car

yoojeankim 04-10-12 08:03 AM

what were the mods in your car?

scotty R 04-10-12 08:10 AM

bahh that sucks so much!! those fire fighters could maybe move a lil faster tho , i wouldnt be able to stand there and watch my car burn :(

cr-rex 04-10-12 08:38 AM

this is my personal biggest fear for my fd. not worried about crashing, theft, blowing the motor... none of that. just fire... im getting 2 extinguishers now...

soooo sorry for your loss. but for sure build another one, not that it would be the same...

Very true. Wiring can be restored and the engine bay can be rebuilt.

93rx74lyfe 04-10-12 09:22 AM

Not really a tragedy for the "rx-7 world" but that does suck. Find the cause of the problem, rebuild, move on.

BLACK MAMBA 04-10-12 10:19 AM

besides a fire extinguisher, i guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to also have a good set of fire resistant gloves to open the hood.

good call... or if you have vented hood you could spray away into he vents... maybe...
