I dont mean to step on your post but r12 or 134a or the substitutes are not deadly unless passed through a flame when they are converted to fozgene gas. But its aganist the law to disperse these refridgerents into the atmosfear. Its def. better to have it recovered by a shop!:icon_tup:

cool thanks for clearing that up. that is correct it is not deadly but wikipedia acknowledges the potential for suffocation because both refridgerants are heavier than air gases.

ive always been told it was deadly by some people but i guess thats wrong

I've heard of someone letting out their refrigerant, and starting their car not too long after. The little bit in the air got sucked into the engine and R12 + combustion = no bueno.

LOL if it gets pulled in the intake and burns it is converted to fosgene gas. But you will know what to do becouse it will cut off you breathing in a split secound and you will exit for fresh air! I laugh becouse im in the air/ heat business and it only takes ounce and you know!
