Tinted my Cwest Headlight carbon fiber inserts
didn't like how the carbon fiber looked on the black, it looked ricerish/tacky
so i had r71 tint them, and man...looks awesome now http://www.1131.net/pics/brian/april/DSCN1396.jpg |
Damn that looks very nice. How did he do it.
|
wow that does look cool
|
he's got a special forumla, he can do turn signals, etc too
he owns a body shop, so your guess is mine, it's quality finish (same as outside of your car) and looks damn good...much better than cwest's finish |
would it work on faded rear lights? mine need a re-blackening.
|
there's no such thing as "reblackening", $75/light he said
PM him, "r71" |
so he will just tint over the faded stuff.
does he do the middle too. i dont want two dark ends and a faded middle. or is it 75x3 for all of them. |
eh, i'd say $50 for the middle
PM him, don't quote me on that :) |
wait, what did you do again?
i dont get it. did you just darken/spray something in to/on to the cf surface to darken it? also, why would you wanna do that? i work with CF quite a bit and i dont understand what happened here/what you had done |
in my opinion
carbon fiber has become tacky, and ugly. people who take a perfectly good car (black car, red car, whatever) and put a big chunk of carbon fiber on it (whether it be a hood, side skirts, whatever) looks bad to me i do realize carbon fiber is a pattern, but it is also a color i think for a black car, my car in this example, carbon fiber comes off too "grey" or charcoal colored so i had him put a coat of paint over the clearcoated/gelcoated carbon fiber that would let the pattern show through, give it depth, but kill the "grey" finish he achived it perfectly, it looks black like the car from anything over 3feet away, but if you get up close, you can still tell that it is carbon fiber (bling factor) |
carbon does not have a color, it reflects color :) its black i can assure you. kevlar mixed with carbon hash color :)
in anycase, i think carbon always has been and always will be nice... but to each their own. |
carbon *fiber* has a color, i know there are many patterns/colors
the most common, has a gray color |
Brian, the headlights look amazing! Can't wait to see them on the car http://www.sixsixfour.com/smilies/word.gif

Colors?
Colors? Did someone say colors?
|
I have to agree with 93blackFD on this. with the exception of some of the dash kits. I think the dash kits on the interior look great and do not break up the lines of the car at all. In fact, they can rejuvenate a faded, scratched interior quite a bit.
On the exterior, the cabon fiber breaks up the lines of the car, like a patchwork quilt. Ironically enough, it looks best on black cars, IMO. Obviously Brian disagrees. The sleek lights on his car look amazing. But to his point, sleek lights with the Cwest kit on a silver car don't have quite the same effect. When I purchase my sleek lights, I will have R71 paint the CF inserts to match my body color. It will look amazing. A good example is the silver invicta on the cover of C&D months back. We can all appreciate some of the benefits of CF materials, it's just not always pleasing to the eye. |
Here's what a tinted tail looks like on a Z.

Any pics of them on the car? I'm guessing they'll look very similar to Ferrari 360 lights if they're body color, with a clear cap on them. They're gonna look good though!

i believe you can buy the stuff to tint them yourself, no need to own your own body shop
buy a spray bomb of it. |
you are referring to "NiteShades"
that stuff is like diluted black spray paint...it is not going to give a good finish, but yes, will tint your stuff i would not begin to use that on a $1200pair of headlights a body shop will give the same finish as the outside of the car....it's *real* paint |
Now only if the lights worked better! :(
|
if aimed properly, they work good
