First of all, a stock RX7 (of any 3rd gen) does not boost 1.1 bar. Your car may have boosted 1.1 bar after the modifications. That would account for the 320 rwhp figure. Any properly modified RX7 boosting 1.1 bar should make better than 320 rwhp. In addition, you simply cannot boost 1.1 bar on a stock ECU. Therefore, your car must have had a modified fuel computer. I wonder what else they didn't tell you about what they did to the car??

What exactly do you do with this race team? Make carbon fiber panels?? It doesn't sound like you worked on the car.

The car I tested to produce the parts for the RX7-SP ran 1.1bar of boost during our testing so I asume that when they ran it on the dyno they would have used the same boost when they compared the standard parts to the SP kit. I was not interested in the dyno test as we were not racing a dyno, I did all our tests at Easten Creek raceway where the 12 hour was going to be run. The car did win that 12 hour race.

I worked as a sub-contractor to Mazda Australia for a few years as a data engineer on the race team. The year before we built the RX7-SP I was crew chief on the RX7 that won the Bathurst 12 hour race as well as doing data for both the Mazda Australia RX7s.

when we did the testing we still only had standard turbos, we did have our factory Mazda Race ECU that we had used in the Bathurst 12 hour cars.
When I started on the SP project Mazda delivered a standard new (red) RX7 FD to my workshop, that car I made all the parts fit then we fitted those parts to the race car and tested them on the track.

In any case - the showroom cars only make 273hp at the flywheel - despite the ic and intake - I've watched the progress of owners who have modified them.

I don't know the dyno Mazda Australia used to test on. I didn't trust the dyno figures 12 years ago and the numbers were what they told me at the time, there were no dyno charts, I was told it was an analog gauge on the dyno. I know we got gains on the track and for what we had to work with back then I think we did a good job. We won.

I was only trying to add some information to the question on cold air intake.
I have had sucsess with cold air intakes and I was trying to pass some of my experience on, if you don't believe it don't bother trying to improve it. I have made gains with cold air intakes.

Everyone knows that cold air is better. No one disputes that. However, you lose credibility by making statements that are incorrect.

You told us that you gained 90 rwhp with just an intake and intercooler. Now it turns out that your car has an exhaust, a Mazda race ECU, and is boosting 4 psi higher than stock. Get your facts right from the beginning, and you won't have so many doubters.

Sorry I was not trying to mislead anyone, and I only put in the basic facts as they were at the time, I didn't want to have to write a novel to explain some basic points.

At the time I did the RX7-SP project the turbo supplier was insistant that a cone air cleaner would make more power than any air box and I think Mazda was under pressure to get their facts straight before they discarded my air box (which they didn't), so I was not include in the dyno testing. During the dyno testing they did discard my IC that had Carbon Fibre tanks and plumbing with a bar & plate core because they got scared if these failed in road cars and they got warrenty recalls.
