for those of you with pillar mounted guages
I am just about to buy some guages.I was thinking Apexi. I still cant decide between mechanical an electric, is there a big diference. sit worth the extra $. Also I as thinking of geting the EGT guage aong wth a boost guage are those good ideas or should i get a differentone instead of an EGT. My last ? is for those of you with pillar mouned guages do yo have white faced guages? I own an FD so all the othe guages woud be black except for my pillar guages. What do you think would it look ok, itwould look cool at night glowing:D

I wouldnt personally go with the white face gauges......gets on my nerves at night. You might think its cool at first (i did) but after awhile it is just plain annoying. Another piece of advice i have is to not buy an a/f gauge with stupid illuminating LED's........SUPER ANNOYING! A boost gauge is by far the first you should get. After that it really depends on what kind of driving you are going to be doing but an egt wouldnt be a bad choice for the second.

They dont make 60mm gauge pods? So who makes 52mm guages just greddy? Do the greddy guages light up at night, or how do you read them at night.

I am pretty sure the one I have on my car is a single 60mm gauge pod. It came with the car when I bought it. I dont know who made it or if it was dremeled to be bigger, it looks pretty clean though, which may imply it came that way.

You will want electric gauges not Mechanical.
Except for the Boost gauge...which only comes in a mechanical. You don't want to mess with mechanical gauges for things like water temp, oil pressure and oil temp.. Later, Patrick |
Boost gauges are BOTH electrical or mechanical. I would go with elec. myself because you can get features like peak hold and playback.

I second what Dr Wankel said. An electric boost gauge is very nice, if only for the 30 second memory. Hit the button, do the boost test, pull off to the side of the road, and check out the results. I don't see much reason to have 30 seconds of memory on an EGT or Water Temp gauge though.
Quality gauges with memory are offered by Apexi and Defi. Something to keep in mind is that the Defi gauges are measured in standard units whereas the Apexi are metric (as well as Greddy). Defis come in both white and black face, in both 52 and 60mm. Unfortunately, their backlighting is green. It looks like the Apexis only come in 60mm, also with black and white faces. The indiglo backlighting is actually pretty cool. The few people that have ridden with me at night have liked it. I've got Apexi boost and EGT gauges in a dual 52mm pod that has been dremeled out. Check out rx7store.com. They've got a nice selection of gauges. |

I would get the pfs single pillar mounted boost guage its a good guage and matches stock guages very well in color and illumination. Do not get a dual cause you tend to bump your hand into the top pod.
Do get the apexi pfc ecu replacement your car will run much smoother and it will display lots of useful info. |
Does anyone have the Omori Gagues? If so, how much do they cost and where can I get them. I really like the way they look.:mspank:

I have a 60mm Greddy a/f in the bottom of my dual gauge pod (you just have to open the hole up a little). I have a dual and a single pod on my a-pillar which worked out really nice. I have Defi oil temp, water temp on the other a-pillar spots, and Defi boost gauge in an RE column pod.
I would get the dual a-pillar with a quality electric boost and water temp gauges to start with. The water temp gauge is just as important as the boost gauge because the stock guage won't even move untill the car is already overheating. |

Yeah get 52mm gauges with a 2 or 3 gauge mount for the a pilar or you could get a steering colum mount for the boost and put 2 or 3 more on the A-pillar. I did that with 2 on the A-pillar for temp and oil press. Greddy electrical all around with black faces they look great at night also i think.

i guess the memory and peak hold features on all guages come in handy for dragging. That way you can check all of the peak values while you were going down the strip to check for any spiking or unusual readings.

Anybody interested in a SPI water temp gauge. Matches the 3rd gen gauges perfectly. Excellant condition. Replaced it with a A/F Gauge

The A-pillar mount is ok. I made the mistake of buying th gauge without bothering to check the color of the gauge...turned out to be white. It is does not look that out of place although it is more grayish than white.
If you have the cash, get the steering column mount from Rx7.com seems to be a little less intrusive and out of the way(getting in and out). |
Is there a kit to change the stock black guages to another color, without going with the jap metric units?
