it is the stock base model part that covers the opening where the 2nd oil cooler would be on the r1 model, I just cut the middle of it out and used the rest of it as my duct base

i must say that is a nice set up. i dont get where you guys are coming from about debris flying into and thru the intake. but what do i know.

matty, when im close behind a guy at teh track his track tires through track sand/pebles/debris up into the nose of my car entering the hole where the 2nd oil coler vent is , and it flows right up the ducting tube to the air filters, not a lot, but after trck events i have a smnall amout of sand/dust covering the filter area

yeah but isnt that what the filter is for? i mean more air = more debri (kinda). Its a paradox, no? but in the end my guess would be that i would be willing to sacrifice cleaning the filters more often for the increased air flow. Do u disagree?

i agree with you, that is why im not changing it, but the concept is that if you make a set where it gets the air from higher up, or from a better angle, then you will get less debris, thats all

I am seriously considering this mod but I have a few revisions I think that might make it more or less effective. I'll draw a picture and post it and see what you guys think. I'm thinking that a solid aluminum tube with some of the ducting only around the base of the oil cooler duct would work better as well as be stronger and more resistant to heat and shredding. And perhaps make a coupling over the air filters of my K&N open intake. to force air to breathe through that tubing.

However I'm afraid that doing this might him hinder air flow getting to the engine while not moving. IE, being stuck in traffic or idling.
