Thinking of buying a FD. Hows this sound?
 

so here is what i am thinking.

im thinking of getting a loan for around $11,000.
i will have $5000 to put down on a car, meaning i'll have $16,000 to get a FD with.

Do you guys think this is a reasonable idea? It will be my daily driver.

good luck finding a nice one for that price. You'll need about 4 or 5k more these days......

unless of course you find one that need a little TLC ofcourse.....

Just keep in mind that these cars are not known for there reliability and are 10 years old so you will need to find alternative forms of transportation when she breaks.

yea keep looking i picked up my 93 r1 74k miles for $12,500 , i guess you can say i got lucky because its in excellent cond. it was owned by an older person. also always check the carfax...

I got lucky and picked up my '93 R1 for $14,500. After taxes and whatnot, it came to almost $16K. But I have 3 other cars to rely on. So if this will be your only car, I'd suggest against it.

Contrary to what surroundedbythe7s says, you can get a very nice rx7 for 16k. I personally think I would go crazy if it was my only car though. If you don't think an rx7 is a good idea for you don't test drive one because you will 99% by buying one if you do.

yea have to agree with widebody2 if you have not driven an fd , when you do you will buy one. i first drove one when i was 17 and i fell in love...:)

i think its a good idea. if it is going to be a daily driver. i would say get a touring or base model, either with low milage 50k or less. or one that has been rebuilt. and do the reliability mods, and thats it.

I paid 16k for my FD a year ago and it has been down for a total of 9 months. Bad turbos first and then a blown O-ring. I am now putting 7k-8k for the LS1/T56 and then I wont have to worry about reliability as often.

oh boy maybe you shouldnt get one... i suggest doing about a month of reading on this forum before buying one. it is a bit more maintinence then a normal car. do a search on "reliability mods". many threads will come up.

i dont plan on buying one tomorrow, but in a month or two..

ok so basic reliability mods are...
downpipe, boost gauge, and the Miata thermoswitch to turn the cooling fans on at a lower temperature, Y pipe, all hoses & clams new, replace all coolant lines and check for the coolant cap to be the right one. Also I should check all of my vacume lines to make shur those are in good condition...

right?
