Thinking about street port need advise
Hey guys, I bought a 3rd gen Rex, and of course the motor is blown. lol... Anyway, I'm currently looking for a good rotary shop around the area of VA, and I'm thinking about 3 mm apex seals, and streetporting while the engine is being built. I'm curious if I keep the rest of the car stock if I will need an ECU change for now? Thanks,

Mild street port is ok... dont do 3mm apex seals unless the you need to....meaning only if they are out of spec for 2mm.

do the streetport....its completely worth it.
I had the 2mm...went 3mm this time around...no sense in not having the strongest motor possible...but different opinions are around. if i had to stay 2mm Id go with either the hurleys or the ceramics good luck |
I've got a question on the streetport. I had my engine ported and it doesn't idle smoothly, it kinda lopes. Is this normal or should it have a smooth idle?

tis completely normal...

look at it this way...the motor is blown..
If the housings are not in spec for 2mm, but still usable then go ahead and the machining done for the 3mm seals....but lets say the housings are crap...then you get new housing...no sense in machining them for 3mm to me.. housings are not cheap BTW...anyways hurley 2mm seals are nice..I'd go with those personally... |
Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm still kicking around the idea of where I'm going to order from. lol... I'll probably stick with the stock 2mm seals and no street porting for now. Later if I get into modding the car alot, I'll probably get alittle more drastic with it. :)
