The Test DRIVE!!

well tommorow i will be going out to a nearby dealer who has 3 different 3rd gens(all relatively in the same price range) and i would like some quick help as what to look for with the car. What problems to look for and what to avoid. ANY and ALL help would be appreciated...

3! At one dealer. I wish it was as easy to find mine. I had to search the papers for months. :(

i've asked the same question once. the reply i got was rather serious..

6 people told me to look for a green midget under the hood..

if you see a green midget, the car is in trouble, check it out dood.

If you are talking about those at Schaumburg, my advice is don't buy them. ;)

oh and their prices are amazingly high.... the one I rode in had 80k miles on it, the clear coat was going to shit, and there was the 5th gear syncro prob... they wanted 15.5 for it.....

im gonna move this to third gen specific, you'll get more help in there- also im sure if you do a search or look in archives youll find some useful stuff...

TpCpLaYa Dec 29, 2001 03:43 AM

yea one funny thing is that the cars or CAR now is at a honda dealership. and the one they have is goin for 27,000. WHOA! but its all good because my friend knows one of the owners there and guess what shes a girl who knows her shit and has good taste. She had 4 supras and had 3 RX-7s. she gits them from like the dealer auctions and always picks up the good cars in mint condition for like 13,000. now im hoping to git a deal like that. i mean there are FDs out there will everyproblem know to man and they go for about 14.........makes ya wonder. anyways ill look into the buying guides and i heard the perfect compression is 7.5all around.

one more thing..what is the 10-8-10 boost patter mean exactly

one more thing..what is the 10-8-10 boost patter mean exactly
if the car has an aftermarket boost gauge, when in third gear floor the car, and the boost guage should read 10psi at 2500rpm then @ 4500rpm it should drop to 8 for a split second then climb its way back to 10 till redline........... but this boost pattern only applies to stock or near stock 7's

Those in Highland Park have been there for years. Everyone "test" drive them. :D

If you decide to buy don't forget to buy an extended warranty! You will get your money back 3 times over!

TpCpLaYa Dec 29, 2001 02:05 PM

ha you guys must be outta your mind to believe im really gonna believe the one im goin to look at. its average condition for 27 big ones. Thats just a little to much for me. The main reason im going is just to drive one becuase i never have befoer

8.5 kg/cm^2 all around is perfect compression, although I rarely see a car with all 8s. General consensus is all 7s and you shouldn't worry, and many cars in the 6s are running perfectly fine. My personal formula for a car is 1. good compression 2. doesn't smoke (check cold starts, almost all cars will blow a little puff of oil smoke when starting, and if the car has been sitting for a long time, you may have condensation in the exhaust, but thats what two test drives is for :D) 3. paint looks nice. Lots of people reject cars that have a bad boost pattern, but if you know a good 3rd gen mechanic, boost problems aren't expensive to fix as long as the turbos themselves are ok. Oh, and $27k is way too much for any stock RX-7 except an immaculate one with under 10k miles. For $16-$17k you should be able to find a nice one with under 60k miles, without any major problems. Later years are better, but I'd take a '93 in good condition any day over a later model with problems.

TpCpLaYa Dec 30, 2001 02:36 PM

yea well with me and RX-7s not the paint, model, year means anythign really to me unless i have a choice. but like if i can find a good priced 93 with little or no problems for a reasonable price ill take it rather than searching for lets say a 94 silver with red interior with less then 50 k miles....now we all know thatd be pretty hard to find so im just gunna take what comes to me. and in my opinion all the colors look excellent on the FD so that really wont make or break a deal. thanks for the help
