Tech question for the Pro's
I am about to do a turbo removal procedure of my FD. I hope I can do this uninstall from above the hood and don't have to lift the car off the ground. First question being, what seals or gaskets will I need when I remove the turbos? Also can you provide with the names of the gaskets. Thanks a bunch.
Wish me luck, I have to remove one of the snails off before I even start ( small crack in the cast iron) |
Forget about it, there is no way you can do it without getting under the car unless you are a contortionist. I think the only gaskets you would need to replace are all the oil feed/return gaskets, manifold gasket, and turbo/downpipe gaskets while you are at it as well. Call RP they should be able to help you.

Is there any way if I used a ramp to drive up on, would this work? You know something that will raise maybe two feet?

Yeah, that would work.. you just need room to crawl underneath and take off the DP and oil lines. I do all my work with just jackstands, you can accomplish most anything without a lift.

Like mjw said, you won't be able to do the job without lifting the car.
Jackstands should do fine for holding it 1-2' in the air. A little tip for putting the BASTARD of a gasket in the front turbo oil return line. Use a zip tie or something to hold the gasket to the pipe, once you have the bottom bolt started cut the zip tie and pull it out, swing gasket around and install the top bolt. If you have a DP that uses bolts instead of the stock studs you might have a similar problem of not getting the gasket to stay in place while you put the bolts in, use zip tie method there too. You might also check your lower intake manifold gasket while the turbos are off. If it is paper replace it with a metal gasket. Removing the lower intake manifold isn't too hard with the turbos off. Leave solenoid rack and injectors attached, undo fuel lines and vacuum lines. Good luck, work slowly. Jeff |
Hey thanks for the information...
