Taller Guys, a question about seating...
 

Ok, I've been looking at getting a 3rd Gen RX-7 for a while, and have sat in one, and they're rather small inside, as I'm a 6 ft 7" tall person. Is there any way that the seat or seat brackets can be modified to sit farther back and farther down? or am I S.O.L.? Thanks.


Also, is what are all the big "maintainence whore" things about these car's that I hear about? What are some examples? (other than changing oil frequently, etc..)

MAN OH MAN.... Bro they have these seat brackets here, for guys around 6 foot can wear a helmet and not hit the inside of the car.. I just cant remember where they are in the magazines and no time this week sorry. They will be on my web page the first sight of them though...

You can buy an aftermarket seat to help. I've heard of lowering the stock seat, but that you lose the adjustability.

I'm 6'0 and I'm sorta close to the ceiling, but really "just right".

I'm 6'5" and have aftermarket kirkey racing seats in my car. I have plenty of head room (probably 6-8 inches) this is because of the aftermarket seats and the fact that i have an r1 (no sunroof), So headroom really isn't the problem. The biggest concern is front to back leg room. I fit but wouldn't want to drive for more than 2 or 3 hours. Again, the aftermarket seat helps, cuz its only a few inches thick (a sheet of aluminum and some padding). Get some seats and an r1/r2 and i think you'll be ok. But 6'7" is pushing it. Don't dismiss the idea all together. Try this. FInd a car you want and take the seat out. I htink it only has a few bolts holding it down. WIth aftermarket seats you'll basically be sitting on the floor anyway, so that should give you a better idea. Hope you get one. i sure love mine!

I'm 6'3 and I've got about 1 inch of clearance over my head in my R1. If I was any taller I would need new seats!

haha, I drove my car a short distance when I was sitting on the flooor (around my driveway, I took the seats out to clean the carpeting), and had to move the car to get the vacuum to the other side of the car.

finally found my #1 reason for being short... fitting into my 7 w/o any problems! :D

I'm 6' 3", and have a 93 touring. I have enough head room to be comfortable, but I think racing seats are your bet bet. I have a friend who is 6' 5", and he can fit in my car, but we have to lean the seat way back, so he is driving ghetto style! You might also want ot look into a new steering wheel, to increase clearance between the wheel and your legs. Don't give up hope!

I am definatly getting a smaller wheel! I can get in OK, but getting out is hell.

The stock set has fairly thick padding - some gus just remove most or all of the pad from the stock seat to gain about 2-3" of head room
