T2 coils more powerful than FD?
 

I know they are more resistant to being burnt up, but do they produce a hotter spark than the stock FD coil. I am getting a little hesitation at 20lbs running Twin Power and B10EGV plugs and water injection, so I am looking for an upgrade without redoing the whole system. If the T2 coil isn't hotter, than is there a coil that will do better without burning up the Twin Power? And don't tell me to search, cause I did.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. There are so many more 2nd gen rx7 so the parts would be so much cheaper. On a side note why would mazda make inferiour parts for the fd as it was supposed to be the flag ship sports car? You would think that the coils for the fd would have more power. Just a thought.

I don't think TurboIIs are more plentiful than FDs.

i ran a turboII with FD coils at 25psi and it made 575hp and worked great. i left the spark plug wires disconnected by mistake on the fd coil and there was a hole lot more spark and could hear the spark alot louder with msd 6al's than when it was with t2 coils and msd'd.

I asked the same question a while back, and had no real reply.

Ditto. I've even had Ray at Malloy call Mazda NA and they gave him the run around and didn't answer/know. I need to have this figured out as well.

I've called a few dealerships and they don't have a clue and Mazda NA will only answer if a dealer calls.

i couldn't say for sure which one is "better", but i've cleared up some fd ignition breakup by swapping in t2 coils instead if that makes a difference.

Anyone know what the voltage rating for each coil is? Why not just wire in a 45,000 volt after market coil from summitracing? They have one for $31.00 each and doesn't need an ignition booster.

Not sure if you guys know this, but all FC coils are the same, there is no difference between the N/A and Turbo2 coils.

I've had gret success with MSD racing wires I got from Gotham... Steve suggested them to me, and given I changed a lot of other things, AEM ignition box to HKS, and Rotary Plugs to the Motorcycle Bur10's and Magnacore street wires to MSD wires, but I would venture all my ignition troubble is gone....

Yes we are, but everyone was specifying "Turbo2 coils", I just wanted to clarify that all FC coils are the same, they dont need to be from a Turbo2.

OK, we need some engineer with access to a good O-Scope and test out both coils to determine which has the greater voltage output!

Have you logged battery voltage under load to make sure it is staying up? The RX-7 coils are very robust, and will put off tons of energy, provided they are recieving enough voltage. How is your alternator doing? Are you running any underdrive pullies on it? How are your chassis grounds?
