Switched power under the hood

Is there any wiring built-in under the hood that connects in the dash to an unused stock switch?

I have an R2, so ideally it would be a feature mine doesn't have that I can install the stock switch on the shifter panel or dash and then run the wires to the engine bay for my needs.

I've already installed cruise control but I'd prefer to leave that completely alone.

Fog lights perhaps?

<smacks forehead>. I knew there was something obvious and easy and I just couldn't think of it. I think that's exactly what I need. The headlight washers would have worked too but I know for a fact the fog wiring is already there.

Now I need a fog light switch and I'm good to go.

I don't think there will be a connector for the switch under the center console though so you will have to run some wiring. I hope I'm wrong here but there isn't one on my R1.

I was thinking the same thing. On my 93 Base, I haven't noticed the connectors either around the bumper or under the shifter panel. If I had those, it'd make my job a lot easier, since I'm also trying to wire up a fog light switch for my FEED combo lights.

Well I looked into it.

There is a short harness that runs from the front harness at the front crossmember into the two foglights. This harness is only provided if the car came with foglights. The plug to the short harness is on all cars and is a black plug with yellow terminal plate that faces you if you look down behind your bumper cover. This plug looks just like the plug that goes on the wastegate and precontrol solenoids. I suspect with a little digging at the junkyard I can turn one up or just buy a used short harness.

The "instrument harness" runs from the ECU area to various switches on the shifter panel and A/C panel. It comes in four versions: A/T vs. M/T, and sunroof vs. no sunroof. I looked under the shifter panel, and on mine there is no connector for the foglight switch. Replacing this harness is going to be a lot harder and more expensive than manually running extra wires. In my application I think I can start out by simply jumpering these pins at the end of the instrument harness. For my intended application it should at least get me started.

I was hoping to use the headlight washer system (which in standard on Canadian FDs) to power an intercooler sprayer but there are no plugs for this on the USDM R1 harness. Unfortunately, the wiring harnesses seems to be mostly customized to the particular model and market.
