Switch to Evans?
 

I'm looking to get a FMIC and rad. in about a month or so, and I was wondering if it would be wise to switch over to Evans. I have about 76,xxx miles on the original engine with no problems w/ the engine or turbos. Will I be wasting cash on an engine that's due to give out? Also, what other cooling mods should I perform at this time, and what am I looking to spend for each particular mod. Help and opinions greatly appreciated -- Jason

I run Evans and think it is a good thing for my situation. For you, if you see a rebuild in your near future, I would probably hold off.

first of all....why do you want a FMIC? Because it looks cool? If you plan on doing a upgraded radiator and IC then why not just to with the RE V-mount setup. It's a little more pricey but the rewards are great. Everything gets cold air. You may want to upgrade your ECU if you do anything besides a intercooler. as far as cooling mods....the radiator and evans are pretty good. Another thing that would help with temps under the hood would be to buy a Downpipe. Plus the sexy spool up noises you get with it. I run evans coolant and haven't had any problems thus far....except getting coolant all over when converting to 0 Psi. My temps stay at around 90 degrees Celcius, and it warms up pretty quickly. I would just switch to evans now since it will be just as much of a pain later. Just make sure you do it right...Im assuming you know how to convert your coolant to evans?

Scrub its his money let him do what he wants Im sure he has researched online and made what ever choice he is going to make.. Don't try to sell things to people its rude.

no one is trying to sell things, Im not a salesman. Im just saying it's a better idea to go with the V-mount. He has the opinion to do whatever he wants. But a lot of people haven't heard of the V-mount setup, I was just bringing something new to the table. Why don't you relax, especially if you don't have anything to say about this thread.

Its just me, but I think the AST is there for a reason and would keep it. Go with an upgraded one.

Evans is nice to run with due to the 0 psi. I like this feature alot because it seems logical to me that there is less stress on the coolant system with less pressure (not as likely to blow a hose ect.). With its other benifits, just seems like the right thing to do.

I wouldn't convert now unless you had a temperature problem or replacing engine, however. The change process isn't worth going through. Putting in a new engine the system is already purged and there is really no hassle to go with it then. Not to mention the cost of doing it now, then again when you replace engine in the near future.

I have the Evans with a Pettit AST and a 7 psi cap. I think it runs great, no more worries about the coolant system. Converting over was some work though. Alot of draining and refilling.

Well, I've been doing research on different intercoolers for a while now, especially the V-Mount that Chuck has made, but my choice in not choosing RE's comes down to one factor---the price. I've chosen to go w/ the HKS IC, and Fluidine radiator because of the quality they give and decent price--- but I have yet to see the V-Mount in person, and I hope to see at least one set up at the Rxecret7 BBQ this Sunday. Maybe that will make me cough up the extra $600 to get the RE setup.

I'll probably end up not doing the Evans right now, and just put the money towards an AST and do the fan mod. I've already got a downpipe to help out w/ the cooling-so is there anything else besides the rad, AST, and fan mod that I should do?

I run Evans and it seems to work very well. I also was able to buy it for $15 a gallon. ( I need 3 with my setup )
It is now about $25 a gallon. Way too expensive for the minimum return in effiency you get. Use - water wetter from redline, 50 /50 mixture of water and antifreeze, Aluminum AST and a 13 PSIG pressure cap. This will be more than adequate ( With the fluidyne Radiator ) for 99% of the street applications.
