swaping 97 jdm to 93 us model.

I bought 97 JDM long-block and tranny.

It came with everything including ECU.

I thought these things all I need but I found ECU need 3 jacks insteady 4 jacks of 93 model.

2 comes from engine harnees, so it is not a problem.

However, one is missing. and I found 93 model ECU has two jacks from different place. It looks like it comes from interior body something not from engine...

Does anyone know solution?

Do I have to buy wiring harness from Japan?

clayne 01-03-04 07:21 PM

Why not just use the 93 ECU and harness?

pjh97 01-03-04 07:25 PM

cuz, 97 JDM has better rat nest and...

If you see it, you'll like it.

It's alot simpler than us version and.. oil metering pump is better.

They improved many things.

any pics can share to us?

clayne 01-03-04 07:29 PM

pjh: If the solenoid connectors are the same you can still use the 93 harness.

DMRH 01-03-04 07:47 PM

Your JDM series-7 (96-98) was updated from the previous series-6 (92-95).

Your 93 version would have matching ECU, plugs & harness to the JDM series-6.

Since you have the series-7 gear, you can use the engine harness inside your series-6 but will have to modify the body harness to suit the different ECU.

I have done these before for Aussie series-6 to JDM series-7 or series-8 (99-02) upgrades. You will find that most of the wires are the same but on a different plug. Its a matter of tracing them out as you go.

pjh97 01-03-04 07:54 PM

So, that means I don't need buy it.

But I need to modify it, right?

Can you get me a reference for that?

clayne 01-03-04 10:46 PM

I'm saying why modify anything at all? Use the series 6 engine and body-side harnesses and series 6 ECU. Any sensors thare NOT present, use a resistor to keep the ECU from throwing a code. This way will be a LOT less work than trying to adapt an S6 wiring schematic to S7 ECU - especially when the ECU will most likely be replaced with PFC anyways.

anyone?

pjh97 01-04-04 05:23 AM

plz... gimme a solution.

DMRH 01-04-04 07:48 AM

I thought I just did give the solution.

Cut the wiring for the 4th plug on the ECU that goes to the body harness. The series-6 & series-7 JDM still use the same features except through a different plug.

Trace each wire out. (about 15 of them) & wire into the original harness.

EG. series-6 body harness, Pin 1A = AC sense signal
series-7 JDM body harness, Pin 1A = AC sense signal

I read something about switching to the non rat nest one, and I read it can't be done on our domestic 7s.

pjh97 01-05-04 03:48 AM

Hey, DMRH.

I got your point.

But.... I cannot go futher, cuz I don't have any pinout diagram of JDM body harness.

I read 93' rx7(s6) and found pinout diagram.

But I cannot found diagram of s7.

And, I found engine harness has four connectors.

Two of them goes ECU and one of them is white and one of them is blue.

my body harness has white and blue connectors. but blue connector has less pins. and white connector's pinout looks diffrent.

What can I do?

Can you give me a full detailed write-up?

I dont get it, whats the difference on the coils? Should be the same. If your talking coils in different spots, thats not iregular on all models here, I think they dont give a fruck which one goes where.. hehe

clayne 01-05-04 02:17 PM

Just use the 93 engine harness dude. Why would you even bother hacking up the ECU when you can use a 93 engine harness which is compatible with the 93 ECU and which will be compatible with 95% of the connectors on the JDM engine...
