suspension identification

How can I identify my suspension to find out if I have the R1 suspension or the Touring suspension?

Well do you have a R1 model or a touring model? That would be one way. Other than that, Maybe the VIN# could help but I don't think that you can tell what model it was by the vin( I seem to remember hearing that on here before) Hope this helps.

Also I believe that the R1 was only available in 93. So if it is not a 93 there is a clue.

Does your FD have a Sun Roof??
Automatic Tranny??
Leather Seats??
Fog lights??

If you answer Yes to any of the questions, specially the Auto Tranny question,..you probably don't own an R-1.

you may have r1 shocks on a non r1 car. i recall your post as to how hard your car rides. non r1 rx7s do not ride harshly, just pleasantly firm.

all 93-94 rx7 spring rates are the same, only the shocks are different for the r1.

what tire pressure are you running???? if your tire pressure is around 40 that could be the problem. run 29-30 front and 27-28 rear set cold.

finally, if you really want to know if you have r1 shocks, take one off the car send it to me and i will evaluate it on my shock dyno. i will be able to tell in a few minutes. i would not be at all surprised if someone slammed them on your car before you bought it.

no charge for the evaulation of course as i am just curious and could round turn them in one day.

My car is a 93' Touring edition, but the shocks may be different. Other than taking one shock off and having it tested there are no numbers on the shocks that would tell if it was R1 or Touring? Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Allright, here is a simple question, what color and brand are your shocks? For all you know, some aftermarkets were put in there, and they might not even be OEM (R1 or otherwise).

To the best of my knowledge, all US FDs came with Showa shocks. The stock ones on my 94R2, are Black, and say FD16 34 700A, or FD16 28 700A.

But if you said yours were yellow, then I'd day someone put some Konis on it.
