Supra Turbo's on an FD?!

okay the question isnt weather or not they can fit etc cuz with money anything can be done..

But with that said would it be worth it to throw on MK4 supra twins on an FD...friend said that the supra twins will flow less air seeing that they are smaller than FD stockers, yet i dunno how true that is (never seen either).

Give me some FEEDBACK! :D :p:

why would you put parts on from a car that competes against us? never do this mazda has better parts that belong the seven, you are bringing rx7's down by installing the enemies parts into our cars

mazdaspeed00 06-29-02 02:21 AM

so i guess installin a supra fuel pump is also bad...

jimlab 06-29-02 02:24 AM

The Supra's turbos are Hitachi CT-12Bs (38mm turbine, 58.7mm compressor), and the RX-7's are Hitachi HT-12s (51mm turbine, 57mm compressor), so yes the Supra's turbos are smaller than the RX-7's, at least as far as the turbine section is concerned.

The compressor map below is for a Garret T3 45 trim, but should be fairly similar to the Hitachi CT-12B because they both top out at about the same power levels. Toyota has never published maps for the CT-12B turbos, unfortunately.

Personally, I doubt that any probably marginal improvement would be worth the expense and effort, but it's an interesting idea, and one that I've thought about several times. The Supra's nearly bulletproof sequential control system would be of greater value to the RX-7, I think. :)

No, that's all right because it's the same Nippondenso fuel pump that was installed in the Cosmo. :)

How is the Supra and Toyota "the enemy"? And how does it compete against "us"? The RX-7 was designed as a nimble track twisty car, whereas the Supra is largely a wangan-type car. Ohhhh ... but I get it ... you take it out of it's nature like most everyone here seems to do and use it as a drag car.

I just don't understand this thing with having an "ememy" ... foreign or domestic. What is with most car people needing something to hate? Is it because everyone else hates you?

MazdaMike 06-29-02 12:20 PM

lol damn going all head shrink on the guy. i think he calls the supra our enemy only because to the public, the supra and the rx7 appear as two similar cars from the same time from rival companies. lol dont bust his chops cause he dont like supras.

elizer 06-29-02 12:25 PM

.

i agree i cna't see how toyota and supra are enemies either :D

GoRacer 06-29-02 12:42 PM

I posted a similar question

But mine refered to the BLitz twin upgrade for the Supra. They make a large twin upgrade for the SUpra but not the RX7. I figured someone else thought about using them as well but no one replied. Since theey are a larger unit, it would make sense to switch to those rather than the stock Supras twins. The only question is: How much fabrication would be involved and would it fit as snug as the stockers with an air pump?

Flybye 06-30-02 01:42 AM

and I thought all Canadians were nice folks :p:

Even if the bolt patterns are the same for the Large twin upgrade for the Supras, the outlet section may be different than ours.

Does ANYONE have any pics of the Supra's twins? Jim?

Well, at least he had the decency to put that in a PM and not on a thread. However, I don't think that most of what comes out of black99's mouth is BS. Sometimes he speaketh the truth...;)

Anybody have any info about what GoRacer was talking about - switching the Blitz Supra upgrades onto the Rx-7? Any ideas...?

Brad 06-30-02 02:15 PM

IMO the cost to benefit ratio would be very very high...meaning very high cost with little to no benefit.

If you really wanted twins I would probably go with Border racing large twin upgrade kit for the FD

http://border-racing.com/main/border...turbineKIT.jpg

Evan F D 3 S 06-30-02 02:31 PM

Could I have the link to that "Border racing large twinturbo upgrade kit for the FD"???? It seems that and M2 ae the only ones who make Twinturbo upgrades that I've seen...

Brad 06-30-02 02:34 PM

Here is the link for Border Racing

http://border-racing.com/

For some reason I can't link directly to the turbo kit page, it just redirects to the main page...The site isnt too hard to navigate though. Click on enter, then 'line-up' on the left, then 'FD3S' near the middle of the page. This should bring you to all the stuff that they offer for the FD.

The kit is about $3800 retail without shipping. Rated for 500 ps

Turbo23 06-30-02 02:39 PM

y not just try and go with a pair on 99 spec twins for the 7?

Brad 06-30-02 03:18 PM

Uh, maybe because the 99's will cost you like $3,000+ brand new, and won't come close to 500ps. Mind you, this Border kit is 500 RELIABLE ps...try pushing 400 ps through the 99's reliably...

Unless you we're referring to the 99's instead of trying to swap the Supra twins in there...in that case, I agree. :D

VTAOE 06-30-02 05:36 PM

Maybe it is just me, but is anyone else confused as to what "ps" stands for in GotBoostd7's post? I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I was just wondering if someone could explain to me what that stands for.

At first I thought that maybe it was hp or psi, but 500 psi doesn't make any sense. If it was 500 hp then I want to know as much as I can about this turbo upgrade. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. Thanks.

black99 06-30-02 06:12 PM

ps is not quite equal to hp. I don't think the conversion is 1 ps = 1 hp but they're really close almost 1 = 1 and they are both a measurement of power. Over in japan they rate their cars by ps instead of hp. Hence the newer rx7's are rated at 276 ps(basically hp). Maybe someone else can tell us if it's ps is exactly equal to hp..

jimlab 06-30-02 06:22 PM

The unit of measurement "ps" is nothing more sinister than "pferdestärke", which is German for "horse power". :)

1 hp = 1.014168 ps

So for all intents and purposes, you can simply call 280 ps (for example) 280 horsepower. It's actually 276 SAE horsepower, but who gives a rat's ass... close enough. :)

VTAOE 06-30-02 08:59 PM

Thanks for clearing that up guys. I get it now.
