agreed, that is unusually low for a 98 supra turbo

it does not mean that there is something wrong with it (honestly...it is rare to find a Supra with "something wrong"), it just means that it is a kick ass deal, and the seller is a bit foolish/rich to let it go at such a low price.

I don't think $30,000 is cheap for a 5 year old car. I remember looking at a Supra TT when they first came out and asking myself, who the hell would pay $40k-$45 on one of these things. The fact that they are still sooo much money makes no sense to me. They are nice cars, but they are not that nice. I would rather have one VR-4 and FD or Z32 over just one Supra anyday. Yeah, yeah sure they are great dyno queens and you can make 5,000 hp on the stock block or Apex seals and you could be the King of the Ricers just like F&F. But what do your really get for that money? Something that is bland styling wise, inside and out. Did they steal the traffic lights for the rear end. Don't get me started on the inside either. And why is it that most are auto's????? I don't care if its just as fast or faster then a 5 or 6 speed if its not as fun to drive it doesn't mean nothing to me.
I'm not bashing them, sure the hell great cars, but I could think of much better things to spend $30,000 on.

tymmeRX7 05-04-02 01:35 AM

If your going to trade in your FD for a 30,000$ supra then you might as well get a used vette, nsx, M3, or a very rare classic. And also if you can lower the supra down to 24k then i will also shit in my pants and eat it out of my underwear too.

Silex 05-04-02 01:58 AM

That's f'in nasty tymme. You go do that lol. But my contribution to this thread is..well...for lack a better word..not contructive. I say fuX0r the pole-ice! Err, I mean forget the Supra! Sure the rear is nice and the font is fugly. Sure the rx-7 is beautiful at all angles. Sure you already have an RX-7. Sure you wanna sell it. But like some have said before, sell it, but do yourself a favor and don't shell out the 'extra' cash (key word here is extra) for a car that is overall, way too much in addition for not enough 'ummmph' factor. Sure, maybe the extra $20K or so might find it's way to your pocket in the time it wouldn't take you to fix up parts for the RX, but let's be serious here. By the time you spend that $20K on your RX-7, you will a faster, leaner, meaner, more kick ass car that will...dare I say it!...run more reliable! In other words, you can go single turbo what that much.

If you havn't guessed it already, I say take it like a Man and stick with the RX-7. And if you don't wanna, I say get an older NSX or MR2 T. Take your pick, just htink it through first :).

Steal it!

At $29,900, steal that Supra TT...what an amazing deal!

your only arguement against the car is its "bland" styling, that "most" of them are autos, and they are supposedly not as fun to drive.

if thats the only negative things you can think about the car, there are hundreds more positives comparing it to an RX-7, which makes the positives highly, highly outweigh the negatives, IMO.

"most are autos". lets see...1,976 out of 13,879 FDs to hit U.S. shores are equipped with automatic transmissions. out of the 6,977 TT Supras (much less than the FD, huh??), 2,939 were automatic. so the auto percentage for FDs is 14%, while for the Supra, its 42%. that is not considered "most", but you are corrct in a way, there are more auto equipped Supras than RX-7s.

good luck finding an NSX for that price. i dont know about where you live, but even 91 NSXs with the highest of miles go for no less than $35,000 around here. and the Supra destroys the pre-97 NSXs in all performance aspects. the only up for the NSX that i see is its styling and its exoticness. and good luck getting the funds to mod it. they do not have as much potential as the Supra, and definately dont have as much aftermarket support. even a supercharged or turbocharged NSX would get its ass handed to it by a Supra still equipped with the stock turbos.

Vette?? once again, the only positive that i can think of would be completely opinion oriented, and that is styling. performance between the C5 and Supra are equal, but the quality of the Supra is, as we all know, much better.

M3s are nice cars, but once again, it comes down to the buyers opinion on its syting, as the Supra is ahead of the M3 in the performance category. and just like the NSX....expensive aftermarket, and not as much potential. but quality of both cars are equal, with the Supra having a more reliable engine.

so i guess it all comes down to a persons styling preference?? IMO, chosing one car over another strictly on styling, and seeing its other positives, is completely foolish.

just my .02

I don't think anyone here will deny the build quality of the 2 cars are completely different - the Supra hands down is a much better car. Basically a detuned supercar - the stock fuel system can handle 500 rwhp (even the fuel pump) No messing with computers, injectors, eliminating ASTs, doing "reliability mods" that if not done could result in blown engine - the Supra is just a much better and sturdier car. Looks, I would say they are tied. I favor the FD a little more in looks. Personally, my FD is the best sounding machine I've ever heard when accelerating IMO - handling they are the same, FD is much more nimble though. Right now I've already put so much money into my FD I can pull a BPU+ Supra on the highway. Next is upgraded twins, then I can pull a BPU++ not many cars can do this. If I had to start from scratch, I'd get the Supra hands down. But if a FD is built and tuned enough and maintained it can run with the best of Supras.

Well said...besides, chances are half the people on this forum would also own a supra one day. My dream is to walk into my garage and find my RX-7, NSX, Supra, and Skyline all parked next to each other...remote control start them all and let them warm up (the RX-7 a bit longer before i turn it off so I don't flood it :p: )

tymmeRX7 05-04-02 11:17 PM

well i just said those cars as options you could buy. they all have their good sides and bad sides, the BMW with its all motor power and technology, the vette with it raw torque and of course the legendary linefelter twin turbo upgrade, and the nsx just for looks car. Although it is true that you'll be lucky to find nsx's for 30k they are out there.

Silex 05-05-02 03:46 AM

Argh hell if I know. I have yet to sit in a Supra actaully and one of my friends has a '97 auto TT and yet....argh....we are such busy college mofo students we had no time to meet up yet :(.

DANKAHOLIC 05-05-02 04:02 AM

30K for a '98 TT........ Do you even have to consider it??? That is a *steal* .... Like someone said earlier.... Pick it up and sell it for more if you don't like it.

Silex 05-05-02 04:04 AM

Ok ok Surpas are rather nice cars in person. Pics, well they just tick me off. Their asses look bigger in pics than in person. I keep wondering if J.Lo was on the desgin team .

DRAG0NEER 05-05-02 04:13 AM

$30k is not a steal. Get it only if you can get it down to the $27k range. Is your 7 having problems??? If not, then I don't see why you'd pay $19k more for a car that gets as much (if not less) attention and respect as a 7. I've actually thought about this myself...the truth is - if I can sell my 7 at a high price and find a supra at a killer deal, then I'd do it.

93TTRX7 05-05-02 04:30 AM

Supra is definitely a nice car...but the road feel is definitely not my type. My friend owns a supra and he himself tells me my car is funner to drive...besides my 7 never seizes to amaze him...he was with me when i ran the red z06

TpCpLaYa 05-05-02 11:51 AM

--------SUM UP------------

ok to sum up what everyone has been saying....its your car and do whatever you want. If you dont want to keep putting money into the 7 git the Supra and be done with it. But Instead of selling you 7 for 10k and trying to git the supra downa couple thousand WHY not just up a couple thousand into the 7 so that u can just buy the supra from what ive heard at a "steal" price. 'Sup to you mah man

Rix7 05-05-02 04:37 PM

Although this seems like an option you would not want to take, you could hold out with the 7 a little and get more money to have both of them (more to $$ to deal with insurance too). Then you won't have to worry about giving up the pleasures of the 7 and you'll gain the fine aspects of the Supra. I don't know if you're a 'one car guy' or not, but this is something to think about if you would like owning more than one car. This is what I'll be doing since I love driving fast sports cars and variety is the spice of life :).

It's only a steal to people like who who think it is :o:.

ruos 05-05-02 08:19 PM

The Supra is the Chevelle & Novas of today. A big boxy car with big power. But as we all know the girl went with the guy with the sleeker vette of the same era.

I have a friend that had an FD and a Supra TT. He sold the FD and put the money into his now 700 HP Supra, but he still says that he regrets it and that he should have kepts the FD.

yzf-r1 05-05-02 09:07 PM

7s and Supras are such night and day cars, like others have said, keep the 7 and get an auto Supra as a daily driver, that's what I plan to do (two more months to pay off the 7).....a Supra with high miles is still reliable....JimLab sold his Supra for 17k with like 70k miles on it (I'm guessing, Jim)....that's the kind of deal I'm looking for

redrotorR1 05-05-02 09:54 PM

I'd say keep the 7. Everyone here knows they can be a pain in the ass ... but, like all things in life, the more you put into it, the more you'll appreciate it. While I do credit the Supra for its performance capabilities, I still find it less aestethically pleasing ... the NSX still looks better to me and that boxy design is 'ancient'. Speaking of which, to the earlier comment about Supras outperforming NSX's in every aspect (I hate being a nit-picker, but ...), the NSX is held in the same regard as the RX-7 in terms of handling; the same cannot be said about the Supra.

But, if you HAVE to spend $25-30K, I'd vote for a C5 Vette. Reliable, high performance, still kind of a head-turner, and generally pretty easy to work on. And available as a convertible ... :D

Every RX-7 owner that I know has the same bitches and rants about their car, but we all still love 'em. And every former RX-7 owner I know almost always says "man, I wish I had just held onto that thing." Food for thought ... ;)

jon mitrosky 05-06-02 11:28 AM
