is this supposed to be here?

while i was going cleaning up my car.. i noticed that inside one of the hoses (the one that is pointed to in the picture) there was a metal cylinder piece inside it .. basically its large enough to fit into the tube .. the cylinder has a whole in the center thats about 1-1.5 cm in diameter .. can anyone tell me what exactly it is? and what it does for the car?

Possibly - can you take a pic of the actual metal part you are referring to??

There was never anything inserted into that tube from the factory, however - it is just a rubber tube that connects the ACV to the air box in order to muffle the sound as the AVC releases air.

So you may have some sort of filter inserted to stop the "moo-fart" sound associated with installing an aftermarket intake and/or removing the air pump.

Do you have the airpump installed?

What about an aftermarket intake?

Thanks for the pics! Hmm, you learn something every day!

I've had two '93 US-spec touring models [both were bought bome stock], and haven't seen or heard of that metal insert before.

It stands to reason that Mazda added it as a built-in muffler in the later models to quiet down the ACV discharge.

Do you have a '94 or '95 US model??

i have a 93 touring

OIC?
Yeah it looks like sum kind of muffler or sumthing, take it out and listen to the difference, i'd say without it you'll get a big pphhhhhsssssss!!!!! and with it you'll get a

Is your car second hand?

I'm thinking that the previous owner had some sort of aftermarket intake on it that had that metal piece to replace the mooing noise. And before selling the car to you, forgot to take that metal piece out. I don't think Mazda added that to any of the years from 93-95.
