Sunroof sticking shut

I tried to open my sunroof today but it was kind of stuck. I had to help it out by pushing it up a little to get it started. I can hear the sunroof motor go. It seems like it has to do with the seal. Anyone got a remedy?

try cleaning the seal and lubricating it so it wont be sticky.

yupp
its the seal or might be the rail
i had that problem with my old hatchback
some good lubing should fix the problem, if not find the joint where it gets stuck at, might be a clump of debris there needed to be cleaned out

Mine stuck too. Kinda like on the first press of the button it doesn't go up all the way right? Then you push it and hit the button again and it goes. Grease worked for me. One of the few cheap fixes on the 7.

I use brake cleaner to clean the tracks and then smear some Redline Synthetic Assembly lube (kinda like their bearing grease, but a little thinner) and haven't had a problem for 2 years.

Also, I wax the painted part where the seal meets with the roof when u close it. That probably helped too.

Not bad for a 240,xxx miles FD chassis.

wow. your FD is might clean forhaving 240K miles on it.. how many motors?

BATMAN 06-21-05 10:13 AM

One more digit than what is on one hand. ;)

Amazingly the power steering (Redline power steering fluid), A/C, ABS, air pump, and alternator are still original. I replaced the master cylinder at around 210k miles.

if using the brake cleaner be careful getting it on your paint.

I have the same problem. My guess is that there is a belt in there somewhere that is getting old and worn/hard. I've looked in the parts fische and didn't find anything. Has anyone taken it apart before that can confirm this?

Edit: as second glance, it looks like it is included with the motor (EA05-69-871 according to the 93' parts fische).

I have 2 sets of sunroof track and motors for sale if any needs any.

Same problem happened to me, put some ARP bolt grease on the tracks. No problem anymore.
