I run it......... I had one crack down the middle for no reason. They sent me another one for free.
|
I want to know more info about it too
|
Its made by FAL, what else do you need to know, its probably the best lexan glass you can get.
|
Sorry for my ignorance but I know that the lexan is great but I don't have too much experience on it, you can tell me the bad thing about the Lexan? Cause I know that it is considerable less heavy than the OEM glass one
|
they can scratch easier and fog up bad in certain weather. other than that... they're fuggin awesome! hahaha
|
Eric,
Any other issues with it? Scratches, yellowing, sealing? Tim |
I don't think FAL uses the traditional lexan anymore, but scratching is the main issue. You can polish them out if they are small but it will get hazy after awhile. But if your serious about shedding weight, this combined with a carbon hatch should shed some serious weight.
I doubt you would have any problem with yellowing or sealing it in. |
yes it says that its not traditional lexan... i suspect its more stratch resistant and would tend to retain its clear state more. it wouldnt be to much time to restore the color anyway... anyone that has sanded headlights know its not too bad. for the fogging on my other car with lexan i used the anti fog treated fabric it worked great! thanks for all the input guys! LUPE do you have a carbon hatch aswell or just this lexan? i hope i didnt ask you something you dont want to add input to :)

I am considering using lexan in my carbon hatch (if the group buy is ever completed). If there is a problem with scratching, how about using the clear protective sheet that people are now using on the front end of their cars?
|
In the future I want to buy a CF hatch , but now I'm thinking of build or made the side windows , from Lexan , so that is why i request some information.
I think that meaby if I can buy the CF doors and Hatch with the lexan windows and and the Summittracing Lexan rear glass it could be a lot of diference. Cause I know that the diference betwin the OEM hatch and the CF with lexan is more than 20 Kilograms (more than 40 pounds) , I thnk that the doors could be more , so If you can take of more than 60 kilograms off the car , it is a great loos of weith even for the street. |
that 3m protective sheet would take down visability. and carbon doors... are you ready for that expense?!?!
|
oh and i forgot... LUPE what was the weight on it? or at least package weight when you recieved it to gauge an idea.
|
I ussually have a web page where they sell the doors at $600 each , but I don't know how expencive are now , I think that they should cost almouts the same.
I have take off the door of my car and at leats it weigth 30 kilos (60 pounds), I think that CF one should be arround 10kilos (20 pounds) |
I mounted the FAL window just like a stock glass with the rubber trim/glue and everything.
I'm using the Carbon Fiber hatch also. No leaking. I don't remember what it weighed but it wasn't as light as I thought it would be. The fal window is pretty thick and it scratches easily if you're not careful while cleaning it. I use soapy water and my palm to clean it. You can't use paper towels because that will scratch it. I won't even use towels because those are too rough. |
i wish that they sold it for the FC

From numerous posts, I had called FAL about this a few years ago. His response then was the FAL window is 11 lbs less than the stock glass. Hearing that it scratches that easy, ie no paper towel or towel drying is a drawback in my book. Eric, does it whistle through the hatch area when you have the windows down at speed (50 to 70mph)?

wow only 11lbs less! thats no reason to switch over in my mind :( thanks for the good info...

That's good to hear. I was always fearful of the fact that with it being so light, that with the windows down and the wind buffeting against the rear CF hatch/glass area it would whistle. I still might get the FAL window though since mines a weekend toy, every other weekend at that.

There is a much better lexan replacement window option that is avaliable for both third and secound gen cars, the product is called speed glass with is lexan with a pat. coating that will not hardley scratch even with stealwool. I talked with them and they are open to group buy. that can beat summits price. if there is intrest call Arron at percy's 1888/737-2970 or look online at percyshp.com. They are very nice people, i provided then with the glass to do the molds. Thanks charlie

yes but whats our net current weigth on this other rear glass? charlie wanna help set up this group buy or should i just mention your name to hopefully get a better response? thanks for the info!

Sorry it took so long was working, and then was puting sec. gen diff in fd housing getting ready to get my engine back from builder. If there is any intrest in fd and fc lexan i wish someone else with more experiance and computer skills would take charge. im older and not very skilled. Arron with percey's is very willing to work with the people on the forum. I belive the price for group buy of say 10 would be 255.00 for fd hatch, i can personaly vouch for there product as i have theres and lexan with MR 10 coating, there is no comparision you can rub it with 4 ot steel wool and it doesent scratch. speedglass does have a patent! fell free to call me if you wish 417-8440181 11;00 central time. thanks charlie.

Looking at the site, it says the speedglass is oversized 1 inch in all directions. Does that mean you would have to trim it to mount it like stock?
