...summertime, should I install my AC?

Hey all,

I live in Florida...and oh yes, it's hot here. I currently don't have AC in my car and was wondering what you guys thought about that. Should I install the AC OR just roll down the windows with fans blowing (not to be confused with radiator fans)?

For further info if needed, my car is stock and mods can be seen in my signature below. Koyo radiator going in soon.

Nihilanthic 06-19-05 07:15 PM

If I were you, I'd keep the windows down if you can handle it. If not, just for the damn AC, youre on stock turbos, right? If so it wont be too boggy.

Oh, and ditch the 18" rims. whatshis name (argh I hate being the FNG on the forum right now) switched out his bigger rims for the 16" stock ones and said the difference in responce was noticeable and profound. Rotating mass is your enemy!

Besides, if you turn the AC off, while the weight is still there, there wont be engine drag. The clutch between the pully and the AC compressor will disengage :)

dude its hot as hell here, i dont' even ATTEMPT to drive mine when its hot outside because its so uncomfortable. I'm in the process of getting my A/C recharged and finding the leak. Its unbearable here, you need A/C if you want to arrive anywhere not smelling like you just mowed the lawn and sweated ur ass off.

my $.02

^^agreed

im recharging my A/C just for those unbearable days..90 and below i can tolerate..anything else above that, my car has to suffer..:D

I thought only Civic drivers that need the extra 2 hp remove their ac system?

AREITU 06-20-05 12:37 AM

You can be hardcore and run without AC. Driving faster just makes it hotter. Seeing as you're in florida, I'd put it back in so you can dehumidfy the air. Hardcore is when you drive around in 108+ weather in a car where only one window rolls down and a hole in the firewall blows the 120+ heat from the asphalt onto your leg. Then you proceed to fall asleep in the bare metal area in the back of the car.

speed7 06-20-05 07:12 AM

yeah f' that install your AC man... I like visiting florida and I love it being humid.. but no chick wants to ride around in a hot ass car. Nor wants to smell your stinky ass when you go over to her house. :D

I think it's ridiculous to not have AC working in those conditions.

BTW, what was the result of your transmission work?

Hey all,

Thanks to all's input. I'll check out the AC and see what all is involved.

dgeesaman, expected to have car back and rollin' today...long wait mainly for ordering tools. I will report back how it drives with my 5th gear back..though technically it was never 100%. Hahah.

silver93r1 06-20-05 08:36 AM

yeah im about to put mine in but will a 94 condensor work on a 93

twinturborx7pete 06-20-05 01:23 PM

should all be the same part #.

dgeesaman 06-20-05 01:31 PM

Looking at the parts lists, there are two makes of A/C (Mana vs. Denso), and there different numbers for the condenser. I *think* this is due to the switch to R134a system in 95, but I suggest you look into it in more detail to be sure.

At some point they switched. Whether its' in late 94 or 95, I'm not sure. In any case, with your VIN and the parts list you can know for sure.

I guess the real question is do you want AC? I would put it in I don't like my nuts to boil while I drive

silver93r1 06-20-05 10:18 PM

FWIW, The 93 Service Highlights Manual shows both manufactures too. No explaination. It appears the easiest way to tell the systems apart is from the configuration of the lines on top of the drier. If the lines come off the top of the drier roughly parallel, and the body of the drier is secured to the bracket by a strap, it's NIPPON DENSO, if one line goes out at an angle first, and the bracket is welded to the body of the drier, it's a MANA design.
