Suggestions please
Stupid question but i'm lookin at a 93 FD and i need to know if its a good or bad deal.
1993 FD Red, Black, 5 Speed 123,412 miles $12,995 It had a rebuild in 95 with 65,000 miles on it(Engine,Turbo,Exhaust) A dentist owned it in Halifax since 97 don't no about before him but it was pretty much garaged since 1996. It is 100% stock, i drove it and the turbos spool fine, it drives straight, doesn't need paint or body and interior is probably 8.5/10 Your input and criticism is welcome, if anyone has carfax and would like to run the VIN here it is, JM1FD3314P0202726 , that would be greatly appreciated |
high miles.

hook up a boost gauge to it so you know its boosting properly. Also check the stickies as they cover exactly what you should check before making the purchase.
Also check to make sure the recalls were performed. |
Its decent but if you look hard enough and be patient you could find a much better deal:D
|
65,000 on the rebuild means that it will be probably be needing another rebuild soon...
|
not really
it lasted 120k before |
No... the body has 123k. The motor was rebuilt at 65k. The 'new' engine has 58k on it. I'm not sure the 'expected' rebuild time... but isn't it 80k ish (depending on how you drive it. All I meant was the engine is past 50% life.
It'd be one thing if the car had a rebuild 1,000 miles ago & is selling for $13k, but with a high miles body, and some-what high miles engine... Just my 2 cents though... |
ahh
true true |
Shitty deal. Theyre are much better to be had. Chassis has way too many miles, rebuild is definitly on its last legs, I dont care what anybody else says. Many people are lucky to get 30k out of a rebuild.
Keep searching. Try the forsale section of the forum. This gives you an oppertunity to search the previous owner's posts about the car, so you can get a nice background on it. There are plenty of deals to be had. I would suggest expanding your search zone more than just your local area. Auto transport is cheap. I had my car shipped from ok to wa for just over a grand. |
If everything else is good on the car, it's not a bad deal. Prices have been going back up, especially on unmolested cars. The thing to worry about with the mileage is all of the suspension bushings, cooling system, vacuum lines, etc. Also turbos if they are original.

thanks for the help but i was wrong about the rebuild it was done around 73,000, it's an R1, and Carfax says the recalls were checked today at the Mazda dealer. By the way thanks UnholyFD3S for the report. Also the motor and turbo weren't rebuilt they were replaced with brand new parts(comes w receipts), and thanks for the boost gauge idea i'll just use the one in my conquest
|
If anyone knows of one i'll take it and the only reason i dont want to ship cars is i've had bad luck before, but i don't mind flyin out and drivin it back
|
id keep looking bro
make a WTB in the classified section and if you need a report just PM me. |
yea thanks, and o i forgot it has a v-mount intercooler or w/e, K&N Filters, aluminum ic pipes, racing beat exhaust, greddy t/t, and HKS SSQ BOV's
|
^^ The V-mount is a fairly expensive upgrade (for kit & new rad & new IC)... RB exhaust is another $500... greddy t/t not needed... & neither is an upgrade BOV...
But between the V-mount (find out brand of IC/Rad) & RB exhaust... it makes the price more reasonable. Maybe talk him down a little & get it. I don't think anyone mentioned it, but just take it to a shop & have them do a compression test. Worst case scenario is you're out a hundred (however much it costs) bucks... but it could save you from buying a car with a dieing engine. |
