A stupid Question

If someone can verify or back me up on this cuz i don't know the answer, is there such a thing called an electric turbo. It gives "instant boost." Like, it spools up in like 1/32 of a second and lasts only a few moments. I heard u r supposed to use it like nitrios. I don't know if it is true, but, someone tell me if it is true or not.

luneytune 12-02-03 02:39 PM

Its called a Supercharger.

Sidestick 12-02-03 02:48 PM

There's actually an ad for that in the latest (I think) SuperStreet mag. Or is it SCC? Anyway I got both those mags at the same time but they're not with me now. Anyway, the ad says you use it just as you described.

XSTransAm 12-02-03 04:12 PM

its basically a blowdryer :P G-HEY

Zoomspeed 12-02-03 04:40 PM

Soembody does make soemthing like that, but Ir eally dont tihnk it woudl work. It would take alot of power to get the electric motor going fast enough to provide the same boost as a turbo.

ijneb 12-02-03 04:48 PM

Yes, you can find them on EBAY from time to time.
Infact, my friend took his centerconcole apart in his explorer, and the rear AC blower even looks like a turbo.

These things are worthless unless you'r using them on a RC car.

Maybe it would make up for no-turbo until 2500 rpms? If it was a short electric motor that would switch off when the primary came up to full boost.

wouldn't make up for much. Considering the max output of an FD alt. is 100 amps. that might be enough for 1 psi.

Found the ad

The ad is by Thomas Knight Turbos & is on pg. 139 of the latest Sport Compact Car mag (Jan 2004).

Yes, I remember also it was on ebay a while ago, similar idea went through my mind when you running non-seq to have the blower spool up before the turbos to try eliminate the lag. :jerkit:

Chech this out!

I wonder how many ricers actually have these on their cars? My IC fan puts out almost that much CFM - and it doens do shit!

Lmao :rlaugh:

Has anyone ever heard of a supercharged turbocharger? I have definitely seen credible sources for these things, although I can't recall where. I believe a car in the 70's or 80's had this stock, if it was in the 80's it would be relatively early 80's. I don't quite know why you'd do it, possibly cuz turbos kick fuckin' ass, but other than that... yeah, it just activated the supercharger through pulleys like they normally do, and threw that air into the turbo for instant spool at any rpm, crazy if you think about it, but practical for elimating lag. If there was a supercharged T-78 or 88, I'd buy it, I'd kill myself within 2 hours, but I'd buy it.

TwinTurbo93 12-11-03 03:54 PM

Summit has some centrifugal supercharger kits but not for our RX-7's , with little work I'm sure it can be fit in a FD to eliminate the lag of big turbo, it has been done many times before, you wouldn't need one if you have the stock twins though.
Check summit wesite and surch for centrifugal supercharger.

Zoomspeed 12-11-03 04:25 PM

in a set up like this you would be generating lots of heat. Heating it up through the supercharger, then once again through the turbo. I donlt know if the benefit from doing this would be enough to negate the hot loss of power from the hot air going into the engine. Maybe if u had a gigantic IC?

TwinTurbo93 12-11-03 05:21 PM

You right about that, I wouldn't do it anyway, I'll stick to my twins  as long as they work good.
Well if you running a big FMIC and a aquamist temps would be pretty low, belive it or not!

VagaBond-X 12-11-03 05:25 PM

hehe
how bout from the supercharger the air goes into a small intercooler then into the turbo then into a bigger intercooler, then into the engine
that would help keep the air cool lol, or i'm just gay :p

TwinTurbo93 12-11-03 05:39 PM

:D
I don't think would be enough space for all that in the engine bay, good thinking though!

J.S.J 12-11-03 11:59 PM

Most big rigs are supercharged along with a turbo, with so much room for everything else you need. One or the other works fine depending on type of racing your doing.

superfoot 12-12-03 12:15 AM

I know what your talking about! It was at the big sema show in las vages.I think its callled a electric charger.basically its conected to the engine it works when you take of,f it gives you a bunch of torque.there only making them for hinda civcs at the monent I think.when I find the url I'll let you know!it does not give any boost of air into the engine.its like a electric motor that make the engine spin fast when you take off.its realy only good for dragg racing.

fd3s_rx7 12-12-03 12:22 AM

a supercharger is instant boost!

a turbo has turbo lag!

Damn straight. Just wire up a leaf blower to your intake, should get the same result.
