Stuck throttle.....found the problem....bizarre!
 

I was tooling around today, it is a beautiful day, no wind, about 70 degrees outside.....clear sky....ahhhhh...
Anyway, my car started acting weird, and I noticed that it was the throttle sticking. I'd let off the gas and only very, very slowly would the revs reduce, and then it got to where they would climb! :eek:
Keep in mind this is an automatic, so it is not like I would really notice like I would if it was a manual....to me the car just was basically accellerating on its own.
All sorts of things were running thru my head as I babied it home, wondering if the cruise control was somehow malfunctioning, etc.......
So, I get it home, and pop the hood and I find.....

The oil filler cap had come off, and gotten wedged alongside the throttle cable!

Hehe, I've had something similar happen to me. I was supposed to be following my dad in his Crown Vic cruiser while he took his Taurus to get the power steering fixed. We get to the place and I'm trailing behind, then I notice he goes to turn in after the light, which just went yellow. So I mash the pedal to get across and go to hit the brakes.. and suddenly the car starts screaming ahead. I'm getting up to around 65 on a 35MPH road and start to freak out insanely. Gladly this was in Chicago in an area where the road is very straight for a very long time. After repeatedly kicking the pedal, thinking it was stuck, the beast finally gave loose. I didn't know all you had to do was turn the key. :( I was so freaked out it didn't even occur to me. My dad was all calm as he said "I know what it was, pop the hood." The plastic cover for the air intake had come off and held the throttle open. D'oh! That sure was a fun ride, though.. phew. :)

Had the same thing happen to me. Nothing more exciting than a runaway 13B! I'll never get distracted changing the oil again.

Same thing happened to me!! Had it to the dealer for a oil change and on the way home it just rocketed off! Pulled the redline in second and third, I was standing on the brakes but could not stop the beast! Manual transmission here so you can imagine what it sounded like when I engaged the clutch to shift! Finally found a place to pull over, turned off the engine and managed to stop with help from the hand brake. Scary!
